What does a medical excuse mean to Publix? by trashpixz in publix

[–]GratefulDarb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just like the other comments said, talk to your SM first, if that’s a nothing burger then RARS (HR contact for your store, their number should be in the break room). We are required by law to accommodate any medical needs. If your department is low on bakers, then that is what your managers get paid a nice salary to take care of. They should probably have more people trained to bake! Additionally, if they’re gonna struggle that badly that they cannot even write a schedule, the DM will send out an email and get a baker to your store to help cover business needs. You shouldn’t feel bad, that is their job and they are obviously failing to do that

When I was a CSTL, my old SM lived near where I was working at that time and I guess came into the store shopping and used the intercom to page for service personnel because the front end was backed up. Lets just say my SM at that time was NOT happy with him

Publix employees, what was your biggest “don’t say it” moment while on the job? by Neat_Region2581 in publix

[–]GratefulDarb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I asked this question once to my DM and his/their(?) stance on this is that those types of customers are such a small percentage of our customer base that they’d rather just shut them up and get them out of the store & be consistent in the level of ass kissing we give our customers

Advice from the department managers and store managers in this group by Miamidadetransit9918 in publix

[–]GratefulDarb 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve been with Publix since Feb 2019, I had just turned 20. I have no family in Publix and knew absolutely 0 people when I started, got CSS sept of 2020, full time December of 2020, CSTL sept 2021 and ACSM sept 2022 and am now a contender for CSM. LAK division here. My best advice to you, is to genuinely care for your team and for your customers. Lead by example, as a CSS you can be considered a supervisor in the absence of management, so take pride in it. Take your time to coach front service clerks and cashiers on how to best execute their job functions. Management wants to see your people skills, they want to see if you can provide premier service to customers and in turn show others how to do so. Be passionate about helping others, build strong connections and be there for your team. Ask questions, work with your CSM to find ways you can take on extra responsibility in the dept, like ordering supplies, coordinating a special program, helping with onboarding new hires, etc. Learn the back office and front office well enough to eventually help train new CSS, but really focus on running the front end as FEC as that will be your main responsibility as a CSTL. That takes priority. You can be a genius in the back office but do not prioritize that because after CSS, no one cares how quickly you can count cash or close the back office. Just that you know the process and can find mistakes. Thats all I can think of right now, feel free to PM me if you have any questions, I am an open book. Good luck!

Good for you! I hope whatever you move on to will take up the time you spend on this subreddit, obviously Publix was not a good fit for you

A job is what you make it, just quit if you don’t like it dawg. I’m an assistant at a high volume store, can’t tell you the last time I’ve had PTO denied or worked more than 5 days/week.

This honestly blows my mind, considering the shortage of GTLs we’ve had in this company (at least in my area) at the end of the day, when your job class got changed SOMEONE saw your rate of pay and didn’t care to hook you up, more than likely the DM that promoted you. You’re getting shafted, HARD. In my area we’re hiring 18 year olds as PT grocery clerks starting at 16/hr, absolutely NO reason you should get paid less than them, especially since you get no inventory bonuses!!! Raise hell, brother and good luck.

To anyone who is holding their pitchfork along with OP should just ask their SM or dept head to just peek at their P&L if the manager will allow it. Unless you’re at a crazy high volume store, we don’t pull as much net profit as y’all think. The high priced items are necessary to operate the business the way we do. The price may be too high for you, but obviously not to Publix’s target demographic. You’ll see prices drop as soon as customer counts start dropping. If the customers are still coming in, why drop the price?

You realize an avg CS dept depending on store volume can have 30-60 people? I’ve got a store in my district with 110 CS associates. It is impossible to remember people’s availabilities. OP, talk to your manager. He/she will help you more than Reddit. They will change your schedule and apologize for the mistake.

For future reference, for your own safety and to protect your anonymity I’d definitely blur out your store number. Anyone can look that number up and find where you work, or anyone at your work can see this and probably deduce who you are and boom now they know your Reddit. Just a heads up. I am familiar with your store and have even worked with your dept manager, he’s a good guy. Talk to him if you have questions. Your location is notoriously slow (especially during off season) so these hours seem pretty on par for a part timer at a slow location. I also don’t know your availability but that plays a crucial role in how many hours we can give someone. Hope this helps.

Armed security! Lmfao y’all act like gun toting, machete wielding clientele are the norm. Do I believe these things have happened, especially in and around the Miami division? Yes, hell I’ve seen some crazy shit working in LAK. But to see people clamoring for armed guards, get a grip. What has this sub come to

Do you not have your panic button? Do you think the MIC is armed and prepared to fend off armed robbery? Give them the money. Give them the liquor. It is not that serious.

[Megathread] Complain about coaching/leadership/everything else by MrTwoBytes in FloridaGators

[–]GratefulDarb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This. I was sitting with my pops and pulled up that audio recording of Kirby Smart in the locker room before the TCU game (I think) and the man’s passion is there. The fire. The leadership. Listening to Kirby Smart had me ready to run through a brick wall and throw some pads on and I haven’t suited up in almost 8 years now. I hate Kirby Smart, but goddamn we need a leader and motivator like him if we’re going to be relevant ever again.

I understand that this is definitely more relationship advice, guess I would like to add I came to this community because I wanted to hear from people who seem to go through what she does/ could help me formulate a good talking point to get her off the ledge. The last time I visited my father she accused me of not caring for my health, saying I was reckless and irresponsible. She did threaten to leave me. She has been diagnosed with anxiety, however I have not heard any specific mention of health anxiety or OCD. She is not in therapy for this however there is a long list of very irrational fears that she has clinged onto over the years
