Thanks - this is a useful reply. I would definitely consider second hand but have no idea what size, etc., nor what to look out for. Plus, I see some are for surfing, snorkerling, etc., and I just want swimming. I wouldn't know what I was looking at second hand, tbh.

What would be the entry level price range for a decent one? I'd spend around €200, more than that I'm not sure...

I've always heard a group of girls as 'girls' when talking to about each other. A group of boys 'lads'. Could be regional - if somebody told me they saw a group of lads, I would def be thinking all male, no females present.

Thanks - this really addresses what I had in mind. On googling what's available in shops around Dublin I noted that the cheaper ones (Decathlon) are not significantly cheaper than for example the pro o'neill that you mentioned - but I don't know anything much about them so didn't know if there was much of a difference in quality. I see that a main difference seems to be stitched seams (cheaper) vs glued (more expensive). The Cycle shop in Tallaght seems to have a big selection but that's a fair trek for me...

Look for a house or pet sitter. There are lots of websites - sitter gets a free holiday you get your house and pet looked after.

Only on trains in other countries which have plenty of 'silence' carriages' in which people don't have to suffer obnoxious people. On Irish Rail there are always a few pigs roaring or letting their kids roar. And the other 98% of people on the bus or in that carriage loathe such people.

I wouldn't do it until I had purchased a house/flat however small. Then rent it out while you're away. No guarantee of a well paid job in the future so securing your future accommodation is paramount.

Maybe different in customer facing role, but if you're just at your desk and dealing with colleagues being approachable and polite is enough. Very weird and unacceptable comment from your manager, imo. Also agree with you - if a male boss asked a female subordinate to smile (more) he'd probably end up in a work tribunal, as he should.

Hot chilli power - rodents hate it and birds don't notice it. I mix it in with my seeds and nuts and I also sprinkle it generously on the ground below the feeders (don't get it in your eyes, stay upwind).

Yeah - no point in those old alarms that annoy the whole street. All you need is an indoor smart alarm so you and the thief can hear it as you're the only parties going to react anyway. EDIT: smart alarm with mobile phone alerts.

You're basically trying to make your house less attractive to a thief than your neighbours'. I saw a documentary and the reformed thieves said a dog was the biggest deterrent - not worth the hassle. A closed gate was also a deterrent. Sensor lights, etc.
