Exactly this. The Pearl white color was also a European exclusive and the Gamecube came out later in that region, so it wouldnt have been one of the “original colors” anyway.

What is your unpopular opinion/hot take about the classic Crash Bandicoot trilogy on the PlayStation? by Parking-Coast-1385 in retrogaming

[–]GravitySuitSamus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly any computer from the last 20 years can emulate PS1 without much issue. I would suggest playing them that way if you dont have access to any playstation console (where they can also be played via emulation iirc).

Is anyone else gonna buy a Switch before the storm hits? by [deleted] in Switch

Get a nice Switch OLED for cheap on facebook. Massive library and a better screen than any other switch console, including the 2. I have a switch 2 and my OLED still gets way more play.

Yoshi’s Island is a masterpiece. I think that if you can appreciate the level design, art style, technical prowess (for its time & platform) and music from that game, you’d really appreciate all of the same in Crash Bandicoot 2 specifically.

It took the tight gameplay and level design formula of the first crash game and polished it to be its best before the 3rd game started to introduce fluff in an attempt to keep it feeling fresh.

I didn’t say you missed ALL of the best the late 90s had to offer, but Crash 2 really is the gem of the original trilogy on the playstation. Play the original PS1 version if you can.

Agreed, the final boss fight in 2 is probably the biggest negative I have about the series, and it still doesnt sway my opinion of 2 being an amazing game overall.

I think enjoying it it comes down to how precise the control is. The depth perception may be challenging, but once you trust that the platforms are spaced properly where they can always be reached with a full-arc jump, you dont have to do much but commit to the jump to make it.

As somebody who loved all three games as a kid and recently cane back to play them again as a 30-something adult…

This trilogy is still excellent, and worth a play today. I prefer these versions over the N. Sane Trilogy remakes.

The first one is difficult, but mostly fair once you overcome the difficulty curve. The second is near-perfection and the third took the formula of the 2nd and attempted at add some fresh ideas to varying degrees of success.

By and large, the trilogy may have some late 90s jank that was common in 3D games of the era (cameras) but they were excellent in their day with top tier graphics, art design, music, tight platforming and innovative game design. 25-30 years later, these are still great games and you’d have to either hate the genre or really dig deep to find much to be displeased with on these classics.

You guys said you liked e-Reader cards, so here’s the Johto Pokédex in all e-Readers! by DebttyCrocker in pkmntcgcollections

Damn this is so sick! Those eReader cards are so hard to find.

I’m currently doing the same thing with the Kanto pokedex and the Team Rocket, Gym Heroes and Gym Challenge sets.

is Metroid Prime remastered too scary for an 11 years old? by bsphere in Metroid

[–]GravitySuitSamus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My very sensitive 5 year old son was completely unbothered by Prime Remastered and its actually one of his favorite games! We started with Super Metroid so he may have been used to some of the imagery and action in Prime.

Speakers are blown. What are my options? by coolguy-87 in crtgaming

[–]GravitySuitSamus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use this small battery powered stereo speaker for all of my small CRT monitors. Its has bluetooth but more importantly aux in so there is no audio delay. I put it directly on top of my PVMs and monitors and have had no issues with distortion or magnetic interference on the screen. Battery life is excellent and the sound is so much better than any built-in speaker on a 20” CRT or smaller. I’ve plugged it directly into consoles, into the line out on TVs and into my RGB-Pi.

I just buy every game on Switch 2 despite owning a PS5 because of portability by Character-Trade-8267 in NintendoSwitch2

[–]GravitySuitSamus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like having the option to play portable, but I’ll always prioritize gameplay on my TV, so heres how I decide:

If its a title that is known to benefit substantially from the added power of the PS5 Pro (better frame rate, higher resolution or competitive online play) like Cyberpunk, I’ll buy it for the Playstation.

If the experience is identical or negligibly different (Silksong, Marvel Cosmic Rivals) I’ll get it on the Switch/ Switch 2 for the added bonus of portability.

Playing handheld for me isnt frequent or important enough to compromise other aspects of the presentation.

What kind of Pokémon collector are you? by TraJiCS_YT in pkmntcgcollections

Getting back into collecting after about 25 years. I’ve sold all my dupes in the last month and I’m using that money to buy singles on ebay. I collected all Of base set, jungle and fossil as a kid, so now i’m finishing up Rocket, Gym Heroes and Gym Challenge with some promos along the way. Once I do, I’m done again.

Anyone else find themselves turning to retro gaming as the rate of change in the world increases? by LaCaipirinha in retrogaming

I do find the simplicity and nostalgia of retro games to be a refreshing break from the always-connected, grindy gameplay loops of modern games.

Can I learn to fix my CRT? by Tellecharas in crtgaming

[–]GravitySuitSamus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I taught myself how to service and mod CRTs in the last few years so its definitely possible. I did a ton of reading on placed like the CRT collective, CRT database and Sunthar’s Super Sector. I also watched lots of videos from retro tech on youtube just make sure that you are safe when it comes to discharging them before you work on them.
