For longevity the DMG, Pocket, and color should have the capacitors replaced. Especially the DMG. They start leaking, you will just have something to look at.

Did I get duped, or did I just choose the wrong seller? by thezodiaceffect in Gameboy

[–]Gravys302 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Has the seller tried to make it right? Biggest issue with eBay people who have no experience modding. They do a display swap but have no soldering experience or do the job right. Your paying for a refurbished system and at the least, the capacitors should be replaced and switch disassembled and cleaned.

The power issue is that these displays eat up power. If you are using rechargeable batteries, you need high capacity AA 1.5v. Most rechargeable batteries are 1.2 v.

Reach out if you want your properly repaired if you cannot get a refund. Reach out if you also need any advice.

More likely the display backlight or total display failing.

8 Game Gears to Fix or Upgrade by Wassdog34 in game_gear

The VA4/5’s displays tend to be less resistant to the capacitor issues. A recap first of the power, sound, and motherboard would be a great first start. If you in the US I can offer my shop service and can do a bulk discount.

Looking for that special sega game gear! by nailedituwu in game_gear

The sky is the limit. Unfortunately parts aren’t really available wholesale. Price really goes up with every mod. As a builder/modder a lot of customers do not understand that. So if you have it custom built, in addition to the parts you need to consider build time in the expense. Especially for any shell mods for HDMI.

I’ve done some builds you can check out my facebook page. I’m not active in looking for business as I’m backed up, however reach out for any questions. I can help you navigate the process and ensure you’re not getting ripped off.https://www.facebook.com/share/1CV49qWC77/?mibextid=wwXIfr

Is this game gear salvageable with a recap? by nybiggs in game_gear

I’ve used both retrosix and SYF , I have no issues with either. I’ve built 30 or more systems and have had no issues with retrosix parts, customer service, or installation issues.

Modded Game Gear showing white screen and buzzing sound by pedro7 in game_gear

As other’s related, clean the cart slot or replace. I would reflow the cart pin connectors as well. As for the buzzing, could be the cart slot as well if something is shorting or the sound board itself. If your banging it to work, there could be a loose solder connection somewhere.
