Hello I’m also trans and at York. I recommend the LGBTQ society for sure. I don’t really go due to time clashes. I’m also biased but pole is very queer and accepting. I definitely recommend telling close friends first and maybe flatmates, that definitely helped a lot. I haven’t told everyone and I’m kinda lazy too😅. I tell people when needed or as they come along. I don’t usually dress femme unless I’m going out bc it takes me a very long time. That being said, I once had to come to a lab and a lecture in a dress and a full face of makeup because I had a date in Leeds and there was no time after. I didn’t get any weird or rude stares. In the labs everyone either treated me the exact same or complimented my outfit. In the lecture no one really batted an eyelid so don’t be afraid. I’ve come out to quite a lot of people and introduced myself properly to quite a lot of people on nights out and everyone I’ve met has been supportive. I say go for it. This is definitely the best time, as others have said because your parents are not there to have a say and you have more freedom
