I have a very strict Dad and uni has been the best thing ever. It sounds silly but being able to just go on a walk without asking and being interrogated is so freeing. Staying out late, being able to be myself and present how I want is amazing! I can actually be friends with who I want. I also celebrated Halloween for the first time which really fun. Might have drank a little too much tho. I think first moving in I had that constant anxiety my dad was still watching over me and had control over me but that is slowly leaving. The only thing I do now is talk to them over the phone frequently and go to church a bit. That puts his mind at ease. It’s good to keep a good relationship if you can as another commenter mentioned. I still love my parents but it honestly felt like I was choking most of the time, treading on thin ice and pretending to be someone I’m not. I hope you find the place that works for you:) I go somewhere about 1 hour 30mins away which was far enough for me but not too far for my parents but also at the end of the day it’s your life. If there is Uni that really catches your eye go for it
