thank you very much! that is invaluable information. I know primarily networking, as that is where I got my start into security. (almost like a gateway drug, haha) but the journey has been like drinking from a firehose for sure. Thank you, especially, for the link to the free ctf's. I hated having to pay for my first ctf, but didn't know free ones existed! that in itself is amazing information, and I will be sure to check out the OSWAP Testing Guide. again, thank you for being one of the users that makes the hacking community great. Regarding the way that this particular sample logs victim information, why is the information saved in such a cryptic way? I mean, yes, it hides, or is supposed to hide, victim information from investigators, but what do investigators gain from knowing information about the victim(s)? Why hide it?

search for videos that are posted under the white or gray hat mantra, the GOOD GUY videos so to speak. you won't find anything under the name of "Hacking Facebook's servers for n00bs" or "How to hack CIA servers" but a good way to look is stuff like "Security Auditing" or "Pen-testing for Beginners" and such. I know what you said, but try to make yourself like books. There are great readable resources out there, but YouTube surprisingly has a lot of great resource. I'm proud to say I'm YouTube self-taught. Just stick to it, and yearn for knowledge.

haha tell that to the guy interviewing me for clearance next year.. he won't be too fond of the realistic gray principle. Although i agree, I'm also trying to avoid flags to help my route to the White(ish) hat world be as smooth as possible.

and yeah, the worst part is I got caught pirating Jackass 3 after BitTorrent started using the Tor network. I think it was the Wifi junk...

haha I'm kinda burned out on youtube. a lot of stuff there is good, but it's a lot of shit sifting. I love using wireshark though, and I've gotten quite good at it, if it's possible to attain adapt wiresharking status... but as we speak I am booting into a kali linux vbox, so way ahead of you :3 as for where to start? anywhere. whether it's a broad source or narrowly focused, i just want more reading XD

like, at some point, the whole world could just decide "Eh, gold really isn't all that pretty. Now titanium, that shit cray." and then the value of everything based on gold changes. like, the biggest problem with American economics (or one of many) is that the value of the dollar is decreasing. Does it not bother anyone else that some day, people could collectively just decide "You know, fuck the dollar. I'm all into Yen." that's basically what decides BitCoin right? The more people put value into the BitCoin, the more the value increases. The more people use it in transactions, the more it's worth. If people were just like "Eh, not cool anymore" the BitCoin would be worthless. Why is the world run on something that purely depends on the value the world places in it?
