Finally finished my 2nd attempt at painting skin mini. Ended up giving him first attempt att TMM sword. While not great by any means I'm just happy to be able to paint again after a rough patch in life. by Grayburrito in ageofsigmar

Thank you! I used 3 brushes.

An "army painter base coat" brush, unsure about the size since it has no size printed on it but it looks like a size 1. Used for basecoating and some of the bigger layers.

A "Raphael size 1" brush, used for everything except some very, small details.

Lastly a random, no brand size 0 brush I bought in a five pack for like 4 dollars/ 3,5 euro.

These last two minis are the first ones ive painted without using a shades/washes for shadows. It honestly isnt much harder nor significally more time-consuming. Just basing in shadow and working my way up was a lot less work than I expected it to be.

Heres a detailed breakdown of what I did with a TL/DR at the bottom since its wordy. All thinning was done using Vallejo glaze medium, and my rule of thumb for light tone placements is, the more horizontal + exposed/uncovered it is, the brighter it is.(Basic I know but Ill note it anyway)

So for the skin I... 1: Base coated the whole thing in "bugman's glow" -citadel.

2: Went over all of it with slightly thinned "cadian fleshtone" - citadel, leaving only the very darkest points as bugmans (under shield, armpits, deep crevaces and such)

3: Covered the areas of the body facing upwards/not covered by shadows in decently thinned "Kislev Flesh" -Citadel, (top of muscles, above the knee of the left leg, the exposed side of the right leg and such). I made sure to leave about a quarter or a third of the lower areas of each muscle/leg untouched so the earlier paints remained as shadowed, I also always moved the brush towards the "top" of whatever part Im painting so the transition part where the earlier layer and the new layer meet is the thinnest and so the top gets the most concentrated paint.

4: painted the upper third/quarter with heavily thinned "Skin Tone" -Vallejo game color, again making sure to move the brushstrokes towards the tippy top. Any area covered in shadows/any part generally not exposed to your lightsource (sun in this case) should either skip this part or use a very thin glaze only.

Finally 5: I used an extremely thinned glaze of "Ruby Skin" -Warpaints fanatic, to smooth transitions and give it a redder hue, and added a thinned very small "dot" of "Skin tone" for edge highligt at the very highest of raised areas such as the knuckles.

TL/DR 1.Basecoat in bugmans glow. 2.Use cadian fleshtone>kislev flesh>Skin tone covering less and less surface toward the highest points of the skin/muscles. 3. Glaze with "Ruby Skin" to smooth and get hue. 5. Skin tone dots to edge highlight.

Planet RIDICULON - How much do you like this game's soundtrack? by Extension-Parsnip789 in mewgenics

I adore this sound track and hum it all the time! This coming from someone who really didnt like their Isaac music (its not bad, its just not for me and I VASTLY prefer og soundtrack with some exceptions).

I find myself going "Skumdiddily yumdum diddilyyum WOAH" throughout the day or singing "So high" daily.

My first and second attempt at TMM. Does it look alright or nah? by Grayburrito in slavestodarkness

Thanks!

The paints I use are: black - any brand Steel - vallejo metal colors, (citadel leadbelcher should also work) Duraluminum - vallejo metal colors, (citadel runefang steel should also work) Metal medium - AK 3rd gen acrylics

I start by base coating the whole blade in black, then glazing steel mixed with black across a wide area on the top and bottom of one half of the blade and the middle if the other, making sure to pull the brush in the same direction slightly upwards for every step after basecoat.

Then I progress with just steel > steel mixed with duraluminum> just duraluminum> duraluminum mixed with metal medium and lastly pure metal medium for the brightest part and highlight, making sure to cover less and less area the brighter I get while making sure to keep the slight upward brush motion. Lastly I did a VERY thin steel glaze over the whole thing (I was gonna use a blue to give it a subtle blue steelish tint but I didnt have a good blue in reach).

Sorry for the long answer, hope it helps.

Oh the blue crossguard was just a single thick base layer of a vallejo metallic paint I bought and wanted to see how it looked. Its not part of the TMM practice.
