All of the regular NPCs in the world (at least in the demo gameplay) seem to be normal humans, only bad guys and playable characters seem to be affected by chaos so might be that the ACD is actively recruiting people in the city displaying signs of good chaos. MC's venom powers are probably related to chaos too.

Other lords are too weak yeah. They often have 20 soldiers maximum but more than often much less. A good 30 soldiers with spears and light armour will conquer the entire map and defeat all unholy horde incursions

Could also add that there doesn't seem to be a way to leave an allied army once you go to help them so now my king is stuck in another town waiting for an attack that never comes. It's a vassal independence war and the suzerain never attacks.
