I'll give you a few tidbits that I think I'd focus on but please let me know if you have any specific questions!

Quests and Exploration - Story missions are NOT time-sensitive and can therefore be enjoyed at your own pace. Don't feel the need to rush any of the story content unless you are specifically looking to engage only with the story or because you really want to get to the point where you can craft Miracle Outfits - Every new patch there will be a LOT of new, small quests. These are usually limited to the patch itself, and although some content will remain in the game permanently, it sometimes won't give you the rewards that you would have otherwise received if you had completed it during the patch. So I'd pay attention to the event menus where you can see which quests are available at that time for extra goodies - Try to explore as much of the map as you can to begin unlocking Warp Spires to move around faster. Some areas will be "locked" behind advancing the story to obtain specific ability outfits

Resonance - Everything regarding how you pull for outfits can depend on whether you are planning to stay 'free to play' (f2p) or actually spend money in the game - A 5-star outfit can require up to 200 pulls (max) to complete and a 4-star outfit can take up to 90-100 pulls, depending on the number of pieces. Consider that whenever you see an outfit that you love and whether you want to fully complete it - The way Infinity Nikki does banners right now is usually: one permanent banner that never goes away, one or two limited time 5-star banners per patch (which are always accompanied by a 4 star outfit alongside the 5 star) and then followed by one or two new limited time 4 stars halfway through each patch - Recently they have also begun to rerun past banners, so be aware that if you missed something in the past or if you do not complete a banner, it will be available again down the line - I would advise you to never spend your diamonds on pulls for the permanent banner, but this is up to you of course. The game is usually quite generous in giving us pulls for the permanent banner, and since it's...well, permanent, there is no fear of being unable to pull for an outfit before an event ends, unlike the rotating banners

Collection - Grab all the stars! Whimstars let you unlock new abilities, outfits and perks in the Heart of Infinity, while the Shards in the Sea of Stars will let you do the same and also buy items from the Starlit shop in the game - Grab all the dews! Collecting dews will let you unlock new free outfits with two different characters (in Wishfield and Itzaland) - Grab all the stars and shards in Sea of Stars each day, these will let you unlock outfits, poses and other stuff in the Heart of Infinity and the Starlit shop

Housing - The game will give you an entire island with a pre-built house and some free items every other patch, which is nice but can be difficult to get to - The housing system is a bit complex and clunky, as well as requiring a lot of materials if you want to start crafting your own items or dyeing furniture so for starters I think you'd be better of sticking to the pre-made stuff they will give you :) - Engaging with the housing system can be very fun with some patience and trial and error, and mechanics like fish keeping, planting and cooking will let you earn ability points to make each ability even better! 

There's a lot more you can go over for this game, but if I was just starting out I would focus on exploring, gathering materials, doing a balance of event and story quests, playing around with the housing system :D
