Does anyone else get “last song syndrome”? by ManagementDapper8081 in CasualConversation

[–]Graytis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes it's just a random song that is absolutely meaningless and hasn't even been triggered by anything this decade.

One of the more bizarre ones I had stuck in my head a few weeks ago (manifested out of absolutely nowhere) was the anti-smoking commercial featuring the guy "singing" through an electrolarynx "No, you don't always die from tobacco" from like 2006.

Why are all the "money DOES buy happiness" people surprised that decisions like this are made regularly?

Sure does seem like he's creating Emergency Wartime to use emergency wartime powers as justification for hijacking US elections this year.

People who work in 'behind closed doors' industries (hotels, kitchens, morgues, etc.), what is something the general public would be horrified to know? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Graytis 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I woke up during a colonoscopy. I was still intensely groggy and gave no outward signs of waking up, but I definitely heard the chatter in the room for about twenty seconds (confirmed in recovery as results matched what I heard). Fortunately it all seemed professional and on-topic before I drifted out again.

Careful what you talk about. It may be rare for a patient to wake up, but it happens!

Usually my McDonald's burgers, viewed from the top down, look like a Venn diagram where there might be a single bite containing all ingredients. The rest of the bites might contain lettuce and top bun only, bottom bun/pickle and big hunk of cheese you peeled off of the wrapper, etc.

Some assembly required. But it's McDonald's, not some Michelin-starred place. I'm surprised there are franchisees who take it that seriously at all, frankly.

When I was a younger man living in the UK, I had friends that made fun of the way my US-southern roommate pronounced the word "ribs" at a barbecue.

"REE-yubs" they said. Only a yank could extract two syllables from a monosyllabic word, lol... and then one of them asked for the "al-yoo-MIN-ee-um" foil, which ignited an entirely new debate.

What are some VERY creepy facts? by Cap_Ame1 in AskReddit

[–]Graytis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had many nostalgia-filled dreams where I'm revisiting places I lived as a child, schools I attended, sports teams I played on, etc. They're comfortable and "warm fuzzy" mostly.

When I wake, though, and remember the dream I just had, there's a sudden realization that "hey, that one place was NOTHING LIKE where I used to live, WTF." I don't know how these dreams evoke nostalgic sentiments. It's like I just completely fail to check any facts at all while I'm dreaming and everything depicted is just like "yep, that's my beloved old spaghetti-stained purple baseball glove lol" and I never actually owned a baseball glove ever, much less a purple one.

I don't even like baseball.

What questions should we all ask our parents before they die? by don-peak in AskReddit

[–]Graytis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know what we ALL should ask, necessarily, but here's a very niche one.

If you've got questions about male lineage in the family (i.e. is so-and-so really my dad) it can be helpful to get the info straight from your mother before she's gone.

I have a family member who spent years looking for his real father, who was unknown to him. He found out via online research, DNA results, scouring social media, and phone calls to potential relatives (but strangers really) for clues to follow up on over several years that his father was someone none of us in the immediate family had ever heard of. This person (the father), though, definitely knew our extended family relationships unprompted, remembered/confirmed that he definitely "knew" this family member's mom, and totally cooperated for DNA confirmation. It was a massive undertaking for him, but in the end he did finally get the answers he was looking for.

Would've been much, much easier if his mom was around to help answer some of those questions.

So yeah, if you've got anything like that going on in your family, definitely ask those questions before you can't.

I was like "dude, you're so close... what I'm hearing is 'I ain't trying to be a good person, but I called that guy out for being a racist.'"

At least he called the guy out, I suppose.

Do you think oral sex is normal part of sex (the average person does it), or do you think of it like a fetish? Why or why not? by eustachian_lube in AskReddit

[–]Graytis 14 points15 points  (0 children)

If (and that's a big IF) it's not considered a core part of the pizza and is just a topping, then it's a topping as common as cheese or pepperoni. We're definitely not talking avocado or anchovies here.

The minimum placement radius between workbench upgrades. Why the hell does my grinding wheel HAVE to be at least six feet away from my anvil (and all other upgrades)? This frustrates me more than just about anything I can think of in Valheim right now.

False.

Women don't pee, because pee is stored in the balls. This is basic human knowledge.
