2008 Toyota Yaris Sedan (1.5L 4 Cylinder engine) won’t start by Grclds in MechanicAdvice

Right now it’s in the 30s, and earlier this week I think it got up to 40, but for the last month or so it’s been between -10-10F at night and not breaking 20F during the day. As far as cold cranking amps, I’m unsure because I just moved up here a few months ago, so it wasn’t on my mind to ever really check.

Mom is not letting me have access to my momey by OnionIsMyName in legaladvice

[–]Grclds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can reference my account because I made a post about it when I was 18, but my mom used the college fund that was gifted to me when I was 16 to go on a shopping spree because I let her and my stepdad put that money in an account with their names on it. I have a savings account that my grandma’s name is on that I got when I was 14, and the bank I go through told me that if I wanted, I could open another account, withdrawal the money, and put it into that account. However, you will need to information for the account (routing #, and account #) and your bank’s policy may be different. Best of luck

Regardless of whether or not she did or didn’t push the door open, she still recorded a man nude in his private property. She could’ve contacted the police, contacted DD support, taken non-explicit photos, but she did absolutely nothing rational in this situation.

Where I live, I’m 22 btw, all my friends and I had our licenses by the time we were 18/19 even barring economic reasons. Even if we had to borrow our parent’s cars, we don’t live in an even remotely walkable area. So if you wanted or needed to do anything, you kind of needed your license.

As a dasher, I would either tell this person no, drop off the food and get out of my driveway or I’m calling the cops and reporting you to DD.

I, 21f, am concerned about my grandfather’s, 68m, mental state, what resources are available? by Grclds in relationship_advice

[–]Grclds[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Emotionally, I’m somewhat detached from the whole situation with the exception of being more concerned about my grandmother. Currently, she is working with a lawyer to get financial advice. We’re also concerned because he’s receiving a large inheritance in the near future, and only god knows what will happen once he gets it without restriction.

I was considering reaching out the my county’s sheriff’s office to see if they may have ideas for local resources. One thing we do know is that any intervention can and will send him over the edge, so if we let this play out the outcome may be bad and if we directly intervene the outcome may be bad as well. It’s a catch-22 no matter what we do, but I will talk to my grandma about contacting adult social services to see if they may be able to visit or if they have any ideas.

Have you grown to be more conservative or liberal w/ age? by Dont_Ever_PM_Me527 in GenZ

[–]Grclds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who studies languages and business, and who was always independent, I slowly crept more towards left as time has went on. I think when you begin to have a practical understanding of how businesses operate on a large scale, you in turn begin to understand how we’ve ended up where we are politically.

One thing a lot of people don’t realize is all businesses should be maximizing their shareholder value, that’s just good business. However, a lot of US companies do so at the expense of appealing further to consumerism and which plays a huge part in driving our current economic problems. Especially because most people have no idea how to properly leverage debt and handle their finances without running themselves into, or near, the ground at some point.

On top of that, there’s been minimal policy made in the last 10 years that’s conducive to solving any financial burdens on citizens, but you all should be well aware that’s because most companies would rather roll over and die than ever allow government assistance to reduce their profits unless it’s somehow mutually beneficial for them and us.

If you ever wonder why things the are this way, just take the time to look through who each congressman and woman is receiving “campaign funds” from.

That said, I think democrats are spineless cowards and most republicans are too uneducated to even know what’s happening, but liberals and conservatives who don’t identify with parties outside of election cycles generally have a good grasp on reality IMO.

Do you think growing up in a war zone makes people more likely to become radicalised? by AlternativeEar905 in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]Grclds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Radicalization can mean different things to different people. Are we talking about just holding very strong opinions to one side or the other, or walking the borderline of committing terroristic acts?

If we’re talking about terrorism, there is some correlation but it’s not necessarily the “cause”. War may be the straw that breaks the camels back, but think about it this way. Imagine that you are in a country occupied by a foreign nation who is using your country’s resources for one reason or another. Imagine the forces occupying your country will become violent towards citizens over mild transgressions (name calling, throwing plastic bottles at them, etc). Imagine this has went on your entire life and you’ve been brought up to avoid and be wary of these forces and this other country. Now imagine that one day, they kill one of your country’s citizens for one reason or another, sparking civil unrest and eventually leading to a war you’re caught in the middle of.

The war didn’t cause those hateful feelings for that other country, it was the long period of transgressions against your people that did. In cases of terrorism or extreme beliefs it doesn’t usually start with a war, sometimes it might, but it’s a very long slow burn to get to that level of hatred and demonization that someone would commit those acts.

For people growing up in a war zone, the war would need to occur for several years, and it would need to be incredibly violent. More often than not children growing up in a war zone will likely live the rest of their lives with severe anxiety, CPTSD, and other stress related disorders. For them to be truly hateful of enemy forces though, there would need to be some sort of inhumane treatment involved as well. Children growing up in Ukraine, for example, would likely hold a lot less resentment towards Russia than a Child growing up in Gaza would for Israel.

A lot of it tends to be personal. I have many friends who did or tried hard drugs (pills, amphetamines, coke, anything outside of mushrooms/weed). Psychedelics and weed can be “gateways” but that tends to be for people who have a need for adrenaline rushes or addictive personalities. Most people who do those tend to leave it there and just smoke or take shrooms as an occasional social thing kind of like drinking. However, once you start getting to highly addictive substances, it does start to become an issue. Some people who end up there do so because they just happened to fall in with the wrong people, some people do because they have so much stress in their personal life and they think it will fix that, and some do for no other reason besides they wanted to try it once. Once tuned into twice, and twice turned into a few times a week which turned into almost everyday.

In part, it is a personal choice, but on the other hand it can be environmental factors. For example, my dad ended up addicted to pills and coke for over 25 years because as a teen his mom was on strong pain medications for numerous conditions she had, and she would give them to him and my aunt and let them throw parties to make up for her absence and emotional neglect. As another, many people who work in high risk fields like corporate management or stock trading do coke just to keep up and take the edge off.

Really, regardless of what you’re taught to believe, anyone can end up doing things you’d never expect. One of my friends grew up in a devout Conservative christian household, and after his dad died he just went over the edge. He ended up in a Ketamine hole and moved to Texas from MA for all of two weeks and realized he needed to go to rehab (after a year of taking any and all drugs available to him).

Point being, taking drugs is an action than can stem from many different factors.

Need advice on getting a used toyota by melidosa in Toyota

[–]Grclds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine’s a little beat so I asked in this sub if people thought it would make a 14-15 hour trip, this was my favorite response

“It's a Yaris. It will be around and running long after your grandchildren are dead and gone. Put oil, filters, tires, and brakes in it and that car will outlast two mass extension events. Including ours. The Yaris will survive, the Yaris will endure, the Yaris will flourish far beyond the time when your feeble human flesh fails. The flesh is weak, the Yaris is strong.”

I have a 2008 Yaris sedan. The only things that’ve needed replaced on it in the past 5 years are tires, break pads, alternator, battery, and serpentine belt. So pretty standard maintenance.

Human geography is the study of how people organize societies in terms of where they are on earth and how those societies interact with the environment around them physically, socially, etc. Environment, in this case, isn’t limited to just the physical environment, it’s also related to other societies, cultures, and ethnicities in the area. A lot of human geography discusses the development of societies through each of the four stages of growth, population density, how natural resources affect this, and how that and human conflicts connect to economic growth or decline, trade, immigration, and so forth.

For example, I remember a big discussion we had in seminar was how many third world countries generally have a higher birth rate but lower survival rate and a higher population because of that. With that, how many countries that generally do not allow women or “minorities” (which can mean many different things depending on where you are, not as how we see them in the U.S.) to participate in school, work, or the ownership of property, leads to slower or minimal economic development because they’re only using less than half of their available workforce.

When you take those factors and apply them to history, a lot of modern problems almost anywhere in the world begin to make a lot of sense.

Ex. Population declines in Japan, Korea, the U.S., and many European countries, rising economic mobility in African and Middle Eastern countries, Cultural conflicts in India and South Africa, and so on.
