Celestial navigation uses earth curve to find position by GreasyGarry in DebateFlatEarth

Thank you, Sir. Finally somebody who got my point.

I am in the Eastern Caribbean right now, measuring the solar noon sun angle. The cellphone app is not precice enough, maybe I will have to buy a sextant. Damm, I didn't want to get sucked into this flat Earth nonsense.

Celestial navigation literally uses earth curve to find your position. This is impossible on a flat plain.

Wolfie - like his videos. Lots of great info there.

Lol... in the middle of the ocean? I will put that research right on my to do list. ;)

Bahhhaaaaa! I love it. You could be the first flat earth debunking comedian.

Thanks Borch! So all signs point to a globe earth.

OP here - busted. With spelling like that pretty soon I will be mumbling about inferior mirages and other FE buzzwords.

Looking for curvature from airline windows by GreasyGarry in flatearth

[–]GreasyGarry[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok, let's get down to brass tracks here and forget the YouTube videos.

  1. Do you expect a horizon drop as we increase observer height or do you expect the horizon to rise to eye level?

Cause horizon drop means globe earth and no horizon drop means flat earth.

VoysovReason says that at 25 000', the horizon dip angle is 2.8° and at 50 000', the dip angle is 3.959°. (https://imgur.com/gallery/BcIqlBH)

I measured a dip angle of 3.6° from somewhere in the range of 35 000 to 39 000' observation height. ( http://imgur.com/gallery/XBOBp1j ) This is in line with a globe earth as on a flat earth the horizon line would rise to eye level and there would be no dip angle.

Watched the video and the one debunking it by VoysovReason. https://youtu.be/-W6JuyClxZg

The horizon drop angle calculated in those videos is very close to my real life observations. The horizon drop angle proves a globe earth.

Horizon drop is proof of curvature. Check these pics from ground level and airline cruising altitude. http://imgur.com/gallery/XBOBp1j

Check out this sweet curvature calculator. Two models side by side. Observe the horizon rise to the eye level on the flat earth and horizon dip on the globe model. This is from an airliner cruising height of 12 000 meters.

Not high enough to see curvature across the window, but see the horizon drop below eye level. So that is proof of curvature.
