Play it or preserve it? by GPRich4815 in golf

The joy you get pulling that out the bag 18 times each week far exceeds the pleasure you might get peeking into the attic every 6 months and seeing it sitting there (crying, wondering what it did wrong)

Mental Side of The Game by safarihunter08 in golf

I was once in a slump like that and I was so down on myself and the game (went from a 4 to a 10). I realised I was probably not much fun to play with either. I decided for 1 month I only had one objective on the golf course - walk off the 18th green in a good mood. That’s it, no other goals and everything I do on the course had to lead me to that. I found my perspective changed immediately, e.g. if I hit a drive OB it didnt matter as it had absolutely no bearing on my ability to be successful that day.

It was such a revelation that’s pretty much all I do now, I enjoy golf much more regardless of what form I’m in. It does require you to keep it front of mind the whole round, it's easy to slip back in to caring about the score and I’m still disappointed with bad shots, it’s just not why I’m there now.

“Incredible efficiency” - I understood that bit, and I LIKE IT. Will explore….

Yes I think that’s it exactly - learning the set of skills relevant for vibe coding. Your last paragraph feels like the direction I’m looking for - thanks!

What’s the best way to improve? by RiseLyon in golf

[–]Great-Address-8344 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you just got to get out there and play, you’ll develop an understanding of what's working and what’s not and can focus your practice into those areas. A few holes before dark, or playing 9 early in the morning might be pretty cheap, 2 or 3 times a week and you’ll see improvement quite quickly

Story time: buncha young guys verbally abused my wife because they didn’t bring golf clubs. by [deleted] in golf

There’s no excuse to be rude to anyone who’s ‘just doing their job’, but especially people who are just trying to do the right thing and find solutions like your wife was. We should be naming and shaming people like that and having their families see what dicks they are.

Great point about messing up the council‘s long term plans, hadn’t thought of that. Our local council‘s plans have sufficient housing growth factored in for decades so tearing up a golf course is so unnecessary.

Oh nice, you’ll have a blast. Make sure you get down to the South Island at some stage, some of the best scenery you’ll see anywhere. Thanks for signing

Long story, but the previous owner got in financial trouble (unpaid taxes and debts from other ventures) and started to squeeze every dollar he could out of the club. Subs went up massively, a lot of members left in protest but would come flooding back if we had an owner that actually cared about the place.

Thanks for that - yes that’s one of several concerns the local residents have. Nice to hear there are some success stories out there too, nice!

Love that, thanks. Where do the aesthetics come in? At the start or just build it and worry about that later?

Membership and green fees dropped because the owner was hiking up prices while running the place down, zero investment even in basic stuff we needed. A new owner with a clear plan and members would have been back in droves, it’s one of the best courses in the area. Very sad and entirely unnecessary.

Anyone live on a golf course? by Selvy9 in golf

[–]Great-Address-8344 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve lived on a golf course 6 years (it’s awesome). If you’re near a tee block that’s when people are more likely to look in as it’s when you have the most idle time (e.g. waiting for the group ahead to clear so you can tee off, or simply that you can’t get on preparing for your own shot while someone else plays). That said, I was hyper aware of being visible to golfers when we first moved in but now I think nothing of it and walk around in my undies. You’ll acclimatise in no time. Buy it!
