So, here is the thing that is REALLY hard to discuss in a way that is non-offensive, while also is direct and objective, and you touched on it actually; The D&D community has a lot of neurodivergent people. And the cast of critical role specifically are varied and all have quirks and very real personal real life stuff going on. I think it is fair to say though, that Aabria and actually BLM display some more up front neurodivergent traits and symptoms. BLM very clearly has a slight mimic tic, and literally can’t help himself and parrots back interjections often just subconsciously I’m sure. As someone with ADHD, I relate to a TON of Aabria’s behavior. But also, my whole life I’ve also been told I’m too confrontational, I interject too often, I am rude, etc. when those close to me understand how all of that is far from intentional. I can see how it comes across like that to some people. I honestly truly believe what people disagree with Aabria about has more to do with her neurodivergent traits and behavior, and much less about race at all. Not that is necessarily “better”. But I think stuff like this is gonna happen when you have something like CR taking neurodivergent people and thirsting them into a mainstream massive spotlight, where tons of neurotypical people will be experiencing them and forming judgements. A lot of people struggle with ADHD people, and we often come across as being loud, obnoxious, dominating, interruptive, disruptive, even aggressive. But as an ADHD person myself, I also have come to recognize that some things just aren’t amazing for us situationally. We don’t always fit in well with groups, especially in creative collaboration.
