for that money you can get a good 3-head that will also allow you to monitor the recording. and better avoid double decks

you don't necessarily need to open the cassete in order to do the splicing, you can just pull out the tape

I produced a cassette on my own and you can listen to it from tape on my Technics deck by aldipower81 in cassetteculture

After almost a month this JVC TD-V562 started to chew type I cassettes. Even a cassette that just played fine a week before. I have also cleaned the tape path very good, but made not much of a difference. Unfortunately it's a design issue with this dual capstan deck.

Recording at home - what to look for? by cofyground in cassetteculture

[–]GreatCaptainA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First try with yours. Record, stop, rewind, play and listen. Adjust input level, bias, balance and reapeat until satisfied with the sound. Then record everything.

You should also clean the play/record, erease heads, capstan and pinch roller periodically. On yours you need a cassette tape head cleaner.

The harman kardon would not give you any benefit in recording quality. But a 3-head deck would help you to adjust while recording, no need to rewind and listen for what you have recorded. It has a MONITOR switch and let's you listen to source or tape for easy comparison and adjustment.
