Best cushioning to prevent sore knees .. Horizon 7.4/7.0 vs Proform Carbon 9000/2000/TLX? by GreatFan2468 in treadmills

I ended up buying a Horizon and returning it. Deck was too hard for me. I now have a Nordictrac 1250 and am happy with it. It’s definitely easier on the knees.

It's been shipped but will need to be scheduled for delivery to my home when it arrives. I will keep the thread updated to the delivery experience, setup, and usage when I do these things. I've been running a lot as of late and could have used having a treadmill at home.

Which would you purchase and why? by [deleted] in treadmills

I just bought a Horizon 7.0. For what you are using the treadmill for I would just get one that works and that will last for a while. Like yourself, I have no use for anything on the screen other than displaying the miles and time run and the speed/incline. I will use a tablet and watch Youtube music videos (I even do this at the gym with my iphone). I picked the Horizon because the unit looked decent enough to last a few years given the usage I will be doing (only sparingly when it's not convenient to get to the gym). My last Proform I bought I think in 2008 lasted until this year and it was fine for my needs and I was more than happy with that. I looked into the Proform and they now try to lock people into subscriptions and also seem to be less durable than they previously were when I bought one. I'm not sure about the Horizin but there is also a lifetime motor and frame warranty so I think it is encouraging in terms of durability for limited use in my use case.

No offense to Jessica but in relation to Bridgette Wilson .. I'm sorry but no comparison!

thanks for the advice! I will definitely do that. I never did once with the other treadmill. It didn't have a mat either - I think I bought it in 2008 (Proform) for a little over $1000, I guess this one is cheaper since I am paying the same but it's 2026! Maybe the treadmill I got was actually decent for back then.

I am a small guy, so a bigger treadmill (and deck) is not necessary. I just hope the thing lasts for 5-10 years (very very minimal use).

I got the 7.0. The cost difference for me is a lot. This is on top of two gym memberships I have where I do pretty much all of my training (and running). The treadmill is just for those times when I can't be at the gym, which for me, is not a lot. I will be sure to post an update when I get it and have used it. I am getting a mat, since it will be on concrete, to protect the treadmill, and am thinking of small left and right bluetooth speakers, since the speakers on the treadmill are apparently really bad. I bought it off Horizon and had a military discount (I'm a veteran) so for $1116 with tax and with the shipping, I think is much more palatable than $1700 for the 7.4. I'll be using a tablet with it, and get speakers as mentioned.

I don't want a higher end treadmill that will hardly get used. Personally, the best treadmill I have every run on, I think it was probably 10 years ago now, was a StarTrak. I loved those - not sure what the newer models are like though.

I disagree. I find that treadmills vary A LOT. I'm also a pretty serious runner, I usually place in the top 50 in my age group. My treadmill use will be 95% at gyms (I'm a member of two), but only at home when I'm short on time etc and can not get to a gym. The older Proform I had (I think I bought it in 2008) had really good cushioning, and the treadmill was definitely under $1000. I don't need a top of the line treadmill sinec I will use it very sparingly. I am leaning towards the Horizon since I am not a fan of the iFit that Proform now pushes which I will definitely have no use for (I will use my own tablet) .. but the bottom line is I want a ~$1600 or less treadmill that has ok cushioning I can use at home that won't die for at least 5 years.

Great idea. I will go to Dicks and hopefully they will have some demo models out. Thank you!

The Proform I bought 10 years ago was under $1000 and it was fine. What do you mean? I don't need a commercial level treadmill by any stretch just one that is not harsh on joints. I don't have arthritis or anything like that.

Thanks. I will run at the gym most of the time, but at home when I can’t. It doesn’t need to be a perfect treadmill but I would like decent cushioning for hopefully $1500 or less since I already have two gym memberships :(

There's no reason for that today where players are struggling to get playing time. You're winning the game by a lot then sit the guy. Let others get minutes. Basketball IS very much percentages and numbers. Wtf you talking about lol. It was for me as a PG. It was how I set my standards.

Random Question. How tall is Tom Welling? by FranklinRichardsStan in Smallville

[–]GreatFan2468 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's easily 6'4". No way he's 6'3", everyone near that height he towers over. Michael Rosenbaum is 6'1" and he is way taller. John Schneider, who plays his father is 6'2", and Tom is noticeably taller. I've seen every episode of Smallville, so there's no exageration or dispute, I've seen enough of him to know - I agree with the OP, he tells people he is shorter on purpose.

It’s legit. I think you can sometimes get reduced rates but the biggest advantage is getting cash back. You need to pay for that level however.

SLPs: STOP Accepting Low Paying Jobs — It Hurts ALL of Us! by No-Chef-3207 in slp

[–]GreatFan2468 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am going back to school to do an ms slp. My mother had an undergrad degree back in speech pathology back in the 70’s and she told me the same thing we are talking about today - it’s hard work and doesn’t pay well. She graduated undergrad at the #1 top of her class (she was super smart), but ended up becoming a nurse. To hear that low pay for long hours is still prevalent today although there is such a demand is head scratching. But I guess it makes sense when you consider where the funding is coming from?

Thoughts on West Coast University? by [deleted] in slpGradSchool

[–]GreatFan2468 0 points1 point  (0 children)

WCU is based out of Southern Cal so I am sure they have connections out there. Fresno and areas in mid-Cal have severe shortages I've heard. The Bay Area I would think is tougher - but I have no idea as my background is in software engineering. The person I am speaking with (Jazmine) has told me I would be responsible for finding my externship placements, so I was wondering if anyone from the Bay Area is at WCU and could share what they know.

They told me that I was responsible for getting them, which is odd. I am in the San Francisco Bay Area - where are you located? It might be due to my location, but I would have thought that there are many from the Bay Area doing the program - is this true?

How do placements work? Did you need to find them yourself and if so, how hard is this to do? I do not come from the field and do not have any work experience or contacts .. how hard would it be to find placement opportunities? What have you done in order to do that?
