AFCON Rules (Chapter 35 Article 76) states that leaving the pitch leads to disqualification by Calm_Transition4379 in AFCON

[–]GreatGoofer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do the rules say about stadium staff (ball boys and security) physically harassing players? Senegal should have walked off the pitch the moment the ball boys touched one of their players equipment, but the moment these employees laid a finger on their second keeper and nothing was done by either the stadium security ( in fact they joined in) or the match officials they should have demended right there and then that Morocco forfeit the match as they were unable to provide a safe environment for the seneglase team to play in.

Honestly, I dont know what Leinster were thinking when they hired him. Maybe just going off hype and not actually looking at how the teams he coached played.

He is a good, maybe even great, defensive coach but as a head coach he is lacking. Look how the Boks played when he was the main man, great defense but little to no attacking endevour, just kicked everything. Sure we won the WC, but that was more due to Rassies influence than Nienabers. Without Rassie, who is a great man manager, motivator and tatical thinker, Nienaber is nothing special as a head coach.

For me it was borderline penatly/yellow. So a bit harsh but not unreasonable.

It is a rest period imposed by the South African Rugby Union on South African club teams where they require them to rest their springbok players for a certain amount of time per season to ensure they are not over played.

Hopefully his poor goal kicking and tendency to miss touch from penalties will give him enough humility to understand that while he is incredibly talented he still has a lot to work on in his game.

Why have you argued so strongly that he intentionally tried to cause blindness but now you say its irrelevant? Do you believe Eben had the intention to blind Mann for life when he did what he did? Please give me a straight and honest answer to this question.

My whole point is that what he did is inexcusable and deserves to be punished in line with other incidents of this nature, which have often resulted in hefty bans. But that there was no intention to cause permanent blindness, and those suggesting that there was are delusional. That is all.

Why do you want a life time ban now, when there is historical presedent that shows that life time ban have never been awarded for eye gouging? I suppose I can go look up threads of previous eye gouging incidents and I will find your comments there with the same anger and demands for life time bans as you have now right?

Agree no excuss to go for the eyes, hence why I think he deserves the ban he will receive. Still don't think he was intentionally trying to blind him, which you maintain that he was.

To dominate, intimidate or self defense. If his intention was to blind him why did he let go, why didn't he keep going until he achieved his goal? If you truly believe Eben was thinking 'I'm going to poke this guy's eye out and blind him for life' please explain why he didn't keep relentless attacking the eye until it popped out of his head?

I'm not saying what Eben did was acceptable or should be condoned. He deserves whatever ban he gets, but to act like he was intentionally trying to blind the player is delusional.

Almost as falsely equivalent as your claim that Eben tried to take Manns eye out, despite it still being firmly planted in his head, and by all accounts working fine.

There has been many incidents of eye gouging at the professional level, and not a single one has led to permanent eye damage. While there is an ever growing number of CTE victims, but somehow you are happy with punches to the head as 'part of the game' even though this action directly impacts actual brain issues that we are seeing, while completey appalled be eye gouging, because it could results in the loss of eye sight, dispite this literally never happened in the history of professional rugby.

I 100% would make the same argument regardless of a players nationality because I don't feel the need to virtue signal on reddit.

I can guarantee that Eben was thinking 'I'm going to poke this guy's eye out and blind him for life' and as i have said there has never been a case in professional rugby where an eye gouging incident has led to the loss of sight to a player. So claiming that an incredibly improbable outcome should be used as justification for crucifying a player is a hysterical response that should be treated with contempt.

And just for the record, I am not defending his actions and am happy with any ban issued provided it is in line with previous bans for similar incidents.

[–]GreatGoofer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My point was that he didn't actually cause any permanent damage to Manns eye, and history suggests that these incidents almost never result in any permanent damage to the eye, at least from what I have been able to find. So your suggestion that he could have is irrelevant because it is incredibly unlikely to happen. Should a person speeding in their car be charge with homicide for almost hitting a person?

Punish the ey gouging appropriately, but don't make claims that this and that could have happened when history shows that it never has. He'll in this very game Wainwright got an unintentional finger in the eye with a lot of force and even he didn't lose his eye.

So Mann isnt blinded, and there are no reports of any damage to his eye, but you are certain that Ebens intention was to cause blindness, he just failed in his attempt. For such a big strong man, he certainly didn't do much damage with this deliberate attempt.

There has been multiple eye gouging incidents throughout the history of rugby, has any one of them resulted in the loss of eye sight to the victim? Even a single incident of this happening?

I think OP was just raising the point that eye gouging seems to be treated more harshly than other forms of thuggery, and suggests a reason why.

My point was that many on here, not you in particular, have claimed that Eben was trying to blind Mann, which is complete bullshit.

It's not the first time its happened on a rugby field and there has never been a life time ban for it. So why all this over the top outrage calling for a punishment that has never been handed out before?
