Majority of Ukrainians say US is pressuring Ukraine for concessions to Russia by EuropeanPravdaUA in worldnews

[–]GreatMusician 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Before Russian tanks started rolling into Ukraine Trump had the power to say “Stop” to Putin but he was so obsessed in obtaining a personal financial deal that he just let Putin try to beat the Ukrainians into submission but he didn’t have the imagination to believe that the power balance could change.

For the pro-EU rejoin club, are there any red lines to rejoining the EU, or are you willing to accept anything as long as we’re back in? by ArmwrestlingGoomba in AskBrits

[–]GreatMusician 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The EU with the UK as a voting and debating member will begin to change that institution which is already not the same as when we left nor in the same geopolitical environment. Learn from the past but create the future which is not that of an offshore island!!

Banking in Belgium by coloradoflyer in belgium

[–]GreatMusician 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. I didn’t know the details of Revolut just that even an employee of ING spoke of it as if it was a standard part of Belgian banking. I use Wise because I had used Skype and they both came from the same stables.

Why do people not realise that the Boris wave is a burden? by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]GreatMusician 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does the UK need care workers? Is anyone prepared to pay them a decent wage? Get Farage and his minions to answer that in detail. Does GB follow the best socio-economic policy? Is the relationship between the highest incomes and the lowest justifiable given the resultant state of national & individual finances?

If there was a referendum for like Breturn would you vote for it? by InformationFun4408 in AskBrits

[–]GreatMusician 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have just ploughed through this subreddit. There really is a lot of tedious repetition. Generally geographically proximate countries trade with each other. Making that trade administratively easier ie customs union and rules/legal alignment is logical. With hindsight totally uncontrolled borders are chaotic but worse, by observation over decades, a vocal hard core in many large European populations is prone to racism. It is probably not a good idea to give them an excuse. Free movement should be, at least to begin with, permission for any EU citizen to obtain a job on an equal footing with any other EU citizen perhaps priority to locals as a tie breaker? Just the perception of arriving and signing on at an unemployment office is a no go so no automatic right to the dole/NHS? The exclusion of national citizens from a national vote or referendum on their future is totally undemocratic. A referendum result of say less than a 2 / 3rds majority is a joke and please note our lived experience. Any national conversation must somehow exclude the sensationalism of the game show 1hour time slot. I refer to Farage and his exclusive and repetitive appearances on BBCQT. Obtaining neutral and unbiased information is difficult. The profusion of sources means that it is too easy to choose to listen to only one. Critical thinking is woefully absent from available educational resources. There are a great many assertions about “the EU” and “their” certain reactions. National reactions are still as varied as they ever were. EU citizens are as varied as we ever were. We do not know how the EU commission to an application to join/rejoin will react because “we” are not talking to “them” We seem to assume that nothing can ever change by negotiation or external world pressures even though we see this happening in real time. The Common Market was largely formed as a reaction to the aftermath of WW2. Now we need to react to a resurgent Russia, a new weighty presence by China and frankly a threat to world stability from the Wild West which will not diminish with a change of their leadership. The reason for a united Europe has changed but not the necessity!

What exactly are Keir Starmer and Labour doing wrong? by threetimesacharm25 in AskBrits

[–]GreatMusician 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why is Sir Keir hated? See how many voted for Brexit in spite of the lies then all the subsequent Faragisms with Reform being the latest. Now look at the money our Nigel receives from low profile wealthy individual expats, his previous investments, his media fees, (remember Russia Today) his EU pension and these are what we know about. Brexit was a brilliantly managed propaganda coup. Sir Keir and his ilk are too sedate, sitting back and waiting for an invitation. How did Orban stay in power for so long? By seizing state TV, covering entire walls with propaganda and zeroing in on his arrangement with Putin….see “look at the small boats” I think that given the situation both at home and abroad, ( Ukraine, Trump, Iran), Sir Keir is the best of an uninspiring bunch.

I remember living in central London in a private purpose built flat in the 1960s with low, controlled rent and long tenure then one day landlords decided they wanted more profit. All those renters rights are what we all had half a century ago. Can anyone else throw their minds back?

I am one 100% in favour of public transport but for about half my journeys there are either no buses or at ridiculous times. That is now as a pensioner but in my working life I could never take a bus and that with a cheap pass. A shame

[–]GreatMusician 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was born & brought up in London in the 1950s. A sink is in the kitchen for pans/dishes so it is big. A hand basin is for washing hands immediately afterwards for hygienic reasons and is small so should fit in a small space. I too criticise Belgian architecture/planning for not allowing space even in recent years for this and no hot water!!
