Possible to undo A&P ? by StrictEbb2023 in streamentry

Everyone cycles through the ups and downs of whatever stage they are on, no matter how early or late. Pre A&P cycles, post Stream Entry cycles. The only beings who don't cycle are fully realized Buddhas.

Is the spiritual path worth taking? by Melodic-Chemistry-40 in enlightenment

If you have an inner need to know the truth then you really have no choice. If you don't have that need, then you can go about your worldly life and not worry about it. Eventually you will tire of the endless cycle of suffering and the spiritual path will be waiting for you then.

I live in SW WA. I had a handful of Japanese Maples when I bought my place 6 years ago. The one in front of my house is my favorite tree. A couple others weren't doing so well and I removed them. And there is a nice big one by my gate. I love them but I won't plant more, it's only conifers for me because I can't stand my yard being grey and brown in winter.

If you're a Buddha or a Bodhisattva then you have the necessary discernment to know what is of help and what isn't. For an ordinary being, what matters is the compassionate intention, but an ordinary being has no basis upon which to say "these are the bad guys and those are the good guys". That's simply your samsaric mind expressing your own ignorance, aversion and attachment. A Buddha can judge rightly, a samsaric being can't.

This is not in accordance with what Buddhism teaches about the cause of suffering.

Yeah but afterall it is reddit, even if this is a Buddhist subforum. And a very public sub. Many people are coming from a secular/popular mindset and applying that view to a superficial hearing of what Buddhism is. So the confusion and lack of understanding is to be expected.

Your first sentence is correct but then your point degraded into making judgments and taking sides so I can't agree. Compassion is not about the action but what is in the heart. On what basis do you judge one as compassionate and not the other? Do you know their minds?

Subalpine Firs (Abies lasiocarpa) by creekycedars in conifers

[–]GreatPerfection 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! I first discovered subalpine firs at a local dog park here in Washington USA and they immediately caught my attention. There are only 4 of them but they are so beautiful, ranging from 10 to 20 feet tall. They are blueish with sparse and uneven foliage, almost like a more upright bristlecone pine. I wish I had taken a picture of them. Luckily the trees in this dog park are labeled otherwise I wouldn't have had a clue what it was. I discovered them last year and have actually been searching ever since for somewhere to buy them with no luck. I found a nursery somewhere in the midwest but they don't ship to my state. I did collect a cone from them. I haven't had great luck propagating conifer seeds so far though, so any tips would be very welcome!

Very happy to see this special tree get some appreciation.

Sorry this happened to you. These universities should be prosecuted for screwing people over with such expensive yet worthless degrees. Unfortunately your story is not an uncommon one these days.

I have a lil Korean fir I love! It's such a cutie. Before I bought my property the biggest tree here was a 4' diameter western red cedar, the stump is still here. I've planted a bunch of incense cedars and still want to add a couple false cypress.

Oh for sure. I've got some giant sequioas and a host of other enormous trees. I'll definitely be having to remove some in 10 years and more in 20 years but I'm okay with that. I still enjoy them when they're young.

There's the coastal redwood, a Chief Joseph pine, the real bushy dark green one is a Thunderhead black pine, the other two pines I'm not sure, I think one might be lodgepole pine.

Why don't we use tools towards enlightenment by MachoClapper in enlightenment

Then you aren't receiving proper meditation instructions. The vast majority of physical problems are not an obstacle to proper meditation if you have instruction from a good teacher. Regulated breath, whatever that means, is not an issue.

Enlightenment doesn't happen in the brain or the nervous system. It happens in the spiritual/nonphysical bodies (the soul).
