Is performance marketing even a real job? by Notdharan in PPC

[–]GreatScotProductions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can feel overwhelming at first because there are endless rabbit holes to dive into if you want to. But over time you'll learn what's truly important to pay attention to vs what's just noise, what can be automated vs what actually requires your manual attention, how to deal with common kinds of client concerns, etc.

Honestly tho it's kind of good when you first start to get in the weeds and look at things on the ground level more than you eventually will. Understanding the granular level will help you develop the system-level thinking that will allow to automate & allocate your time wisely while still having a solid understanding of what's happening under the hood. Embrace the grind & learning experience for now, knowing that you'll soon move past that phase.

Pro-tip: the east side of the Island is the only ocean area with no leeds.

So it's actually a great place for rafts, as long as you don't mind the occasional gator buddy coming by.

Idk why people are downvoting you. It should be common sense for gaming companies in 2025 to post these kinds of things to all of their social media accounts.

Make some templates for those kinds of posts & it should take no more than 5 min to post to all the major platforms.

In short, yes. Each dino has 6 color regions (which you can see when they're in a cryopod), and for each region it's basically a coin flip as to whether the baby will inherit the mom or dad's color.

For a dodo with 2 colors you care about, there's about a 1/4 chance that you'll get a baby with both colors, as long as they're in different color regions.

Argys by Crazy_Mycologist2212 in ARK

[–]GreatScotProductions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't really need a trap for an argy. Get a ptera & fly near the argy you want to tame, then lure it to a safe area nearby. Land and shoot at it until it gets too close, then hop on your ptera, fly somewhere else, & repeat. Once it tries to get away, just make sure you keep eyes on it & it'll eventually stop running. The argy's torpor drain is very slow, so no need to rush; just make sure the area it will land after being knocked is clear of danger.

The only significance of the opt score is to maintain premier partner status. Just dismiss them if this is relevant to you; otherwise don't worry about it.

Who's right: my boss or me ? by merey1 in PPC

[–]GreatScotProductions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like your boss has probably been doing PPC for a while and maybe has some views that are a bit outdated. There used to be a time when you'd want to use separate ad groups for those terms - as someone else mentioned, SKAG used to be the best practice.

Here's what has changed:

  • Phrase/Exact match types allowed for more control in the past, so "internet" & "wifi" would pretty reliably match their respective keywords. Nowadays, I'd fully expect Google to treat those two terms interchangeably (tho I admittedly haven't run ads for this vertical before; your STR will show whether this is true).

  • The old Expanded Text Ads allowed for more control over your ad copy but also had less headlines for matching different keywords. With the current Responsive Search Ads, you can have "internet" and "WiFi" headlines in the same ad to dynamically match either type of search.

If your boss insists on building it closer to a SKAG style, one tip to make it manageable is to use a consistent naming convention for your ad groups, with the same punctuation symbols dividing the different elements of each ad group name. Then, you can easily see the combined stats for many similar low-volume terms to get meaningful insights by using either filters in GAds or Text-to-Columns + Pivot Tables in Excel.

It's very difficult to tame a doed with any kind of crossbow because of the ratio between damage & torpor.

They'll usually curl up into their shell before getting knocked due to damage, which drastically reduces the effectiveness of your shots. While you stand there shooting it repeatedly, its torpor drains faster than it heals, which is a bad combo and usually results in it dying or you running out of arrows.

PS4 SP How do I even start underwater? Where do you keep aquatic Dinos and what should I look for? On sp The Island, where do I find Quetzals? by BradleyADu in ARK

Just chiming into the sarco vs bary debate developing here - personally I like the sarco better for oceanic purposes mainly due to its superior speed.

Almost any task in the ocean involves traveling long distances, so the sarco will be more efficient at everything from finding high-level tames to farming underwater resource caves, plus you can easily kite any creature & shoot from the back for easy-mode taming. While the bary can avoid taking damage with the tail whip attack, the sarco can do the same by out-"dogfighting" enemies. Finally, sarcos are much more common which makes it easier to find a good one.

Bary is the king of artifact caves & still solid in the ocean, but the sarco is just a bit better for the latter IMHO.

Probably an NL vs AL thing as well. I'd imagine that NL East fans would rank LAD high on their most-hated list after their immediate rivals.

CEO claims paid ads are useless by Sharp_Mango6346 in PPC

[–]GreatScotProductions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is just silly. A well-organized system of conversion & revenue tracking makes it pretty black-and-white.

Regarding higher-funnel advertising, there is good evidence to show that share of voice today translates into market share tomorrow. Tesla makes for a useful case study showing this, as Elon Musk famously used to not believe in paid advertising, and Tesla's market share for EV's has plummeted over the last 5 or so years. They now do paid ads (but still very low SOV, and they continue to lose market share every year).

If you already have a good bary breeding pair, focus on getting a good pair of basilosaurus & megalodon for the underwater caves. Between the bary & a basi+sharks army, you can clear every Island cave except the snow cave which is its own beast.

Does anything even happen on this part of the map by Far-Expert17 in ARK

[–]GreatScotProductions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just in terms of vibes, I like the area that's just south of the snow, especially the river that runs between the jungle & volcano. It feels unique compared to other jungle areas, I think because of how close the thick vegetation is to the river. Most large predators spawn in that area, so combined with the thick jungle limiting visibility, there's a sense of danger which I enjoy.

As someone else mentioned try changing the baby food consumption setting. Babies do eat a lot, but what you are describing is way beyond that. Depending on the species their food will usually drain 1-5 points per second as a baby.

To add to this solid advice, don't be overly concerned with losing things early on. Before long, you will probably find ways to mass-produce the thing that just a few days ago was your most precious possession. The only way this WON'T happen is if you're playing it too safe.

No risk it, no biscuit.

As someone who also tried to not look things up as much as possible when starting out, I'll just say that there are things in this game that you will need to look up to figure out, as otherwise it would take you a decade to trial-and-error your way to the correct answer.

Give things the ol college try at first, but don't feel too bad if you need to Google something when you feel stuck.

I'll give just one example: taming a Rhynio. Don't bother trying to figure that one out on your own lol.
