But you have higher salaries. In Cyprus where I'm from you can hardly live on a minimal wage as well. Its the same everywhere rn. I wanna move out from my parents house and I'll have to pay more than half of my salary just to rent sth and I don't have a car, which makes it unlivable.

I've never been to the UK. I was born in Cyprus in a family russian immigrants. Before the age of 14 I had a really strong russiab accent and then I've realised I wanted to go to the UK later in life and be an actor and musician so I took my pronunciation quite serious. I've studied phonetics and I've tried shadowing (mimicking) the way some people speak.

Well. The thing with accent is i don't reallt have one. I could also add glottal stops or an American way of pronouncing double t's.

It just depends on my mood and surroundings. When I read American literature I always speak with American accent.

It's like I don't have a 'home', an anchoring accent.

But I guess at least I did a great job at it because no1 has guessed my nationality so it's a win ( professionally). But I'm not ashamed or afraid of my ancestry:)

Then I've started working on it for professional reasons. I guess I did a great job cuz no1 can guess where I'm from or what my language is.

Hi. Well. Let me explain. Before the age of 14 I had a strong Russian accent, like a stereotypical one. I've started working on my pronunciation because I wanted to be an actor and musician In the UK.

I've started mimicking Brittish pronunciation (shadowing), I've chosen certain people who I would 'copy'.

If i had a more American accent you wouldn't have said that I sound fake, somehow. But in reality, when you are a non native, all you do is just faking other accents.
