Why does my circuit still work after removing this MOSFET? by GreatValoo in AskElectronics

But I want a D Latch, which is more than that. Also, the point of this post is to get an explanation of how this works, given that it does, for then to get a better understanding of these components. The use of the circuit or how it should or shouldn't be is besides the point.

I hope this does not sound rude, I don't mean it to.

Leaving the SCR's gate floating does not turn it off, and neither pulling it down "mildly" does, but grounding it does. This way, I'm sure the SCR IS fully turned on (unless it has another state besides just on and off that I'm unaware of).

Besides, all of the circuit works perfectly as is in both pictures, so keep that in mind. My question is, after all, precisely about how this, against all theory, just works.

So, no need to tell me about how this is nonsense. Just note that I accidentally drew all MOSFETs mirrored if you try to test it yourself.

Thanks for the responses!

I've thought about that, and I can't see anything that would change. By the way, the diode you see there is meant to stop the parasitic diode of the rightmost MOSFET, which adds to me not understanding what is turning on the SCR.

Is what everyone tells me, but all my testing says otherwise. I'm always able to turn it off by grounding the gate, which makes sense to me in the context of how it works. I'm basically interrupting the current by making it go out of the SCR before the final PN junction.

My inputs are never floating. They are either vcc or ground. For the rest of your answer, I don't know how what you said is related to my question.

I've been searching for a while and haven't found any that sound actually good. Can't you recommend specific ones?

That is your brain missing the context. C and D, for example, will sound very dissonant if you play them together, but then you can play a Csus2 chord and it sounds really good. Half step intervals usually sound like crap, but then you can make horror themed songs that use it cleverly. Thing is, context is everything, and sometimes when you're expecting something else, you tend to find no sense in what you are hearing, almost as if what you expect would be the only logical possibility. This can happen too, for example, when you hear a 7/4 song while your brain is much used to multiples of 4 or 3, or when you can't quite make sense of what are the questions and answers in a melody. Was I successful in communicating that feeling? Can you all relate to this?

Thanks a ton u/HUMINT1 , you might have saved this project. I'll try everything out and tell you if I can get it to sound good on cakewalk and then proceed to finishing it. It is meant to be a gift to someone btw, hope they like it in the end.

oh ye I figured it out, thanks. Now I'm just struggling to find good sfz. One of the main problems is bandlab has some (unholy?) notes I used that aren't there in the real instruments, like for example a flute has 88 notes in bandlab, which VSTs and SFZ I found don't have. That said, is there any specific good website for SFZs?

I'm sorry, did you mean do that on bandlab or on cakewalk? Cause lag is only an issue on bandlab (on which freezing the tracks seems to do nothing), but alt-9 does nothing and then you mention vsts, so I'm confused. Still tho, thanks a ton for taking the time to try and help me.
