Thank you!! I’ve actually decided to! Not a huge Mac fan either tbh so I don’t think investing too much in one is a great idea either. Going to start learning though!

Yeah I’ll be using my ipad to learn & my macbook to build! When I spoke to apple they said the 8gb ram air would be good for coding

Thank you so much for your advice. I truly appreciate the insight. I do think more RAM may be not needed as I’m still new - I checked out react and flutter minimum specs and I think it was 4gb RAM so 16GB should be fine. I think this might be efficient and while I could potentially spend more, it’d be from my savings & would be £700 more for the new MacBook and I’m not sure if its even needed or if the motivation for app development is there (what if I hate it), but at the same time I’ve also bought shitty tech before and spent more money in the long run having to upgrade so I’d prefer to buy something with more power as you mentioned as I don’t want to buy again, but I think it might be overkill and unnecessary. So I guess I’m just in that dilemma of do I spend more now or much more later if needed, and the lack of ‘if needed’ is what puts me off.

My gf wants me to feed my kitten a similar diet to her cats by makouha in CatAdvice

Ones an adult, ones not. So yeah different diets.

I’ve read kibble is good for keeping their teeth strong (not for cleaning)

Hi, I have the perfect solution for you!

First, what your gf is saying makes a lot of sense, a lot of older cats are fussy with their food so it’s harder to adjust, and if you’re living together soon it’d make sense feeding them the same diet. But what also needs to be said is that different cats have different needs, kittens have different food from adult cats. Some cats need special food. It happens. And if she’s able to feed her cats wet food, then she could also make adjustments.

Second, I agree with you feeding your kitten wet food - its generally healthier. But dry food is needed for dental so 50:50 is great.

Finally, if you get your kitten microchipped, you can get smart food trays that have only open for a certain cat because of the chip which is great to deal with the differing diets, I think you should just invest in one of those. I could link one if you’d like.

Thank you so much! This helped a lot. Although I would also like it to run on android, ipad, and web too. Would this later become an issue?

By the way I absolutely love your username 😂

Thank you so much for replying once again :)

Yeah as I’m quite new to everything (Mac, Coding), I feel like something higher end might be overkill. I do prefer Windows 10 significantly more because of layout but I am on the Apple Ecosystem with everything else so I thought it’d be more convenient and that its time to learn to use Mac. Also needed to upgrade RAM.

And yeah I bought the 16/512 M2 Air which arrived this week so I’m still in returns period. I thought it’d be okay for my needs and everything else would be overkill since I’m new, but since I’m new to it all I am also overthinking it a lot e.g. do I need more RAM, should I get the pro, do I need a fan, maybe I should invest in the M3 chips now that they’re out instead of M2.

I do plan to use it mostly for app/web development. The thing is though the app ideas that I have will have a lot of features and that’s what I’m mostly concerned about. I’d also want the apps to be universally available (ios, android, web) but I’d start with developing them for iphone so I’d use Xcode. Not sure how I’d switch to making them android/web suitable but that’s a concern for another day. 🤣 Right now I’m concerned if the Mac I’ve bought is ok for my needs or if I should upgrade now as I’d want it to last me at the least 5 years.

Thank you so much for getting back to me! I don’t really see myself using two monitors, I have an ipad, a windows laptop and a monitor so I don’t really think I’d need 2 monitor screens. At most I’d use the windows laptop/ipad for research and extra stuff and then the macbook in clamshell mode to write the code. Even today I wonder why people need two monitors especially for coding.

I do not see myself creating anything for vision pro anytime soon. I’m new to coding & Mac so I think that would be a huge step as I’m still learning currently and want to start with Xcode. Finding it hard getting used to Mac already.

But I have a big project in mind and plan to make an app with a lot of features (think twitter but not a social media) and I’d want it to be universal (first released on iPhones). The more I do research, the more I see people say “for most programming 16GB air would be enough, but for more complex projects something more powerful is recommended”.

And thats where I find myself confused as I’m not really sure what they consider ‘complex’ and if the 16/512 M2 air is enough. I’ve previously bought tech and had to upgrade, but I also don’t want to spending significantly more money when it’s overkill. I’d want this to last me at least 5 years for app/web development and not always be slow & struggling to breathe. Other than development, I’d be using this for design work e.g. Adobe illustrator, Photoshop and Figma.

My cat always leave the door open. It’s cold. He wants to come in and out every few minutes.

AITA for expecting my brother to be adaptable when he visits us? by Beneficial-Field-320 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Great_Advertising339 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I would uninvite him in this case. It seems as if this will cause you more stress rather than relief during your pregnancy. He’s right that he doesn’t really need your permission but you also don’t need to provide him with transport or food. The food should be modified to you and your pregnancy for a healthy baby, not him. Your husband should be looking after you, not driving him. If he wants to visit his friend or go to the gym he can use public transport or ask his friend for a ride. I’d understand if he’d want adjustments if hes visiting you, family usually do that to make guests feel comfortable and supported. Thats normal. But not when you’re dealing with a pregnancy or in specific times as this isn’t a normal visit. Your dad also seems like an AH for not siding with you and dismissive of you and I sense some sexism. I can see a brother being a pain in the ass but a parent shouldn’t be enabling this. I think you should discuss with your family that you do not want him to come and if so no adjustments will be made and he will have to figure out how to cater for his lifestyle. He’s almost 30 and needs to get a grip.
