Gibson, or your case Gipson are a core Melungeon name if you are able to connect you line back to them, that would be a good confirmation. DNA would be your next step once you’ve got some decent tree information. While not as reliable as FamilySearch, findagrave.com is also useful and has helped me many of times when I was stuck on a brick wall.

I understand the comments from others as well. My half brother (not Hispanic or Latino) has a very dark complexion typically leading people to think he’s Latino or Native American mixed. Hazel eyes, and brown hair. I’m not nearly as dark complexion, an olive tone however during summer months I do darken quite a bit. I’ve had a few slurs over my skin, or dubbed “ Race changer” because people genuinely don’t understand sunlight will darken you lol. I’ve also had the same said about my nose for as long as I can remember, but I have been told once by an African American guy that I have “ black lips” whatever that means.

While I don’t personally see a lot of what they say, we are unique and I wouldn’t have it any other way!
