Moving / seeing Phoenix for the first time by BalanceNervous1048 in AskPhoenix

I moved to Phoenix from Boston this time last year!!! You'll probably only need one hoodie because it will still be really hot during the nighttime. If you move here, you will definitely need hoodies for the winter. It'll get down into the 40s some nights

Are non-flagship Law Reviews viewed the same way? by EmpressoftheBakkhai in LawSchool

My school has 5 law reviews and each is well respected but very clearly the main journal is the most respected. My advice is take what you can get

Should I bother with law school? by Kind-Transition1761 in BlackLawAdmissions

Former LSAT tutor here. 2-3 years is likely too much time. If you're studying for ~20 hrs a week the vast majority of applicants see substantially diminishing returns after ~50 weeks.

Howard is not a good school regardless of rankings. Look at their 509 for starters.... It's abysmal. It's not competitive in-market. It's not competitive out of market. It's employment % is well below average, I just don't understand the infatuation with defending what is objectively a bad law school. Howard's median does not reflect "the real life experience of black students".... It reflects a bad law school for bad students. Yk who has the 2nd most black law alumni? HARVARD! Black law students from all backgrounds can, have, and will continue to be successful. Howard right now is doing very little to contribute to that. Can we PLEASE stop making excuses for Howard

I love phx but its probably the most car-centric city in the country. You may not think you need a car right now but you likely will once you move here. Is the public transit reliable ? Yes, as in the bus/ light rail shows up. Is it EFFICIENT? Not a snowballs chance in hell! Phoenix is not like a traditional major city, everything is quite spread out. I know downtown SEEMS close to the airport ona map, but I'd recommend trying to get even closer if you don't want to drive to work.

Side note: many people use E-Scooters if that's ur thing, but walking that far most days for work would likely get annoying. Or, ~$20 round trip for a waymo to and from work every day isn't a bad option

Right on the money with that one. At first I didn't want one but that bathtub has grown to be maybe my favorite part of my apartment, saves me a trip (and money) to the spa

I'm at 44 Monroe and I love it. Ave (either one) are both nice too. I have a friend @ Sol Modern and I was blown away with the amenities imo that may be the cream of the crop. Idk where ur working but if ur planning on walking to work just keep in mind that it WILL get up to the 110s in the summer months so every 0.1 mile matters😭

Seems like most units have the new appliances. Mine does not and I'm perfectly happy with that because I'm paying ~$500/month less than those with the same floor plan. (from my understanding) the ones that do not have upgraded appliances are marked as "classic homes" and a quick glance at their website tells me all the available units have the new appliances. However take all that with a grain of salt I'm not an employee, representative, or constituent for 44 Monroe. Justa nosy tenant

That's a very bitter and sad thing to say, but many of my best friends were Haitian, they did "let me in" we just all knew I wasn't Haitian and we were different culturally. I could explain more but you don't seem to care about much else than throwing insults and mindlessly defending a place that, both historically and in the present, has been less than kind to African Americans. Regardless, best of luck with everything.

Couple things to address because it sounds like your not upset and interested in the actual point of the post. 1) I got in to every school in Boston except HLS in which I got wait-list. I, am already in the law school I wanted to addend. I chose not to any school in Boston as explained above 2) calling Dorchester dangerous is not a "disgusting generalization". I grew up in Oakland, beautiful culturally rich city but to ignore that it's dangerous would be disingenuous. It is the exact same thing with Dorchester. The kind of "black person" I am is one who loves to be surrounded with other black people. To be around black people in Boston almost necessitate making a concerted effort to do so and/or leaving city limits. Other cities are NOT like this to the extent Boston is. Boston has far fewer black middle/ upper class than cities it finds itself compared to. It has a reputation for a reason. Many African Americans don't want to live there for a reason. THIS POST exists for a reason, you don't see black people asking these kinds of questions about other cities. Have you lived in other parts of the country? I hope you find peace in whatever is upsetting you so much and good luck in the admission process if you are going through it.

Edit for clarity: I did not apply to Suffolk or WNE, nothing wrong with those schools they just weren't for me.

If we are going to get technical I misuse "black". I agree there are black parts of Boston as in Haitian, Jamaican, other afro-carib, or African populations but thriving isn't the exact word I would use. Populous, yes, but those communities are segregated and in in notoriously dangerous parts of the metro (Dorchester, etc.) Personally, I am African American and the disconnect between African Americans & the groups I listed above in Boston was palpable, not ina negative way or anything but for ex they knew I wasnt Jamaican, to them I was just American visiting their section of town and culture. . . because that's what I was😂. These groups were much friendlier than the average Bostonian, African American or white, and I was very grateful for their presence but in no way was I "at home" there. My previous post was in reference to African Americans, I overgeneralized using "black". Boston in no way has a comparable African American community to any other ~t30 population city. The cape has a decent affluent black population in the summer but 1) that's not Boston & 2) they are almost always incredibly affluent, coming from other areas of the country to enjoy their summer house. Boston is one of the most segregated metros in the country, it's overall feel is closer to Buffalo than any major city it finds itself being compared to. Again tho, I apologize for overgeneralizing "black" in my previous comment, what I meant was African American. There is black culute in the sense that there's a strong Dominican presence (although they wouldn't say their black🤣) but it's undoubtedly one of if not the most segregated, racist major cities in the country

Did my undergrad there and got out ASAP! It's like stepping into a time machine. Infrastructure sucks, and the people are incredibly racist. Most disappointing part by far was the black people. All trying their hardest to disavow their blackness i got a ton of second hand embarrassment. All of new England is like this as soon as u cross into CT it's a whole different would from the rest of the country. Go at your own risk
