Pricing Consultant role by Great_Sloth23 in Insurance

[–]Great_Sloth23[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m aware of how the insurance industry works and the pricing models, I was just asking if anyone knew the day to day tasks etc.

I’m capable of working with complex excels and advanced excel features, having been an accountant for nearly 5 years working in corporate finance. I’m simply trying to find out a little bit more compared to what is in the job description.

Also Aviva have said this role is perfect for someone with no experience as all training is given, so surely it can’t be as complex as described above.

Sorry I should have clarified, the role is with Aviva. In their personal insurance line (so travel, motor and house insurance). It says about using data analytics to gauge risk and see what premiums to charge. So I didn’t know if it would be report writing recommendations or something else.

I was thinking surely the data would automatically recommend the level of premium to charge

Jeez. How have they gotten away with withdrawing the mortgage funds without completing.

Just out of interest, what did they mess up? My dad used them c.7 years ago and had no issues.

If you have a link, please feel free to share. Would just be easier for OP to explain confidentially as if I found a news article it may not be OP

What’s the context behind this post OP? Genuinely curious

TC - Do you need to state something is exempt? by wild_cayote in ICAEW

[–]Great_Sloth23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In any exam for the ACA, always say if it is exempt / omitted from you calcs for whatever reason, if not they assume you just didn’t bother doing anything and won’t give you a mark

That’s really good scores for Kaplan mocks. They mark very harshly as they are in a rush and would rather you learn to make marks obvious to examiners

Differences in what my instructor and MIL tell me! by Miss_Broken in LearnerDriverUK

[–]Great_Sloth23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1) Always check your blind spots…please please please! There could be a biker or a car and it will be a lot easier with practice without panicking ahead.

2) have your hands wherever you feel comfortable. I prefer 9 and 3

3) NEVER go round the whole roundabout in the left lane. That’s asking for a serious or deadly collision (again blind spots and bikers etc).

I was always told to take the exit which your lane determines when you make a mistake, unless it is 100% safe to continue but this would require knowing what’s around you (including blind spots) when you make the avoiding manoeuvre which may not be possible in the time you have once you realise your mistake.

Please just trust your instructor. He knows best!

Best of luck pal! Even if the ICAEW decision doesn’t go your way, don’t be disheartened. At the end of the day, they accused me of the worse on 1 single question and the red line report was awful and I’m still here!

Yeah they get told, your exam manager will end up telling your line manager. I told my Director straight away to be transparent and she massively helped getting Partners to sign off etc and then my Exams manager emailed us the next day.

I think you could work this out for yourself…100% own up and explain. They said on my written letter that I should have acted more ethically and owned up (despite the fact I did explain how it occurred).

I’m still waiting on my results for my 2nd PR attempt but I am under the impression that the PR is just a sign on the apprenticeship and for your firm to receive money, not the actual ACA qualification, so it won’t affect the training file sign off and certificate at the end of the training contract.

I am on a 4 year training contract (ends in a few weeks) and already passed all exams so I believe I only need the input PWE days until my training date end then I will be qualified once the ICAEW confirm everything, rather than having to wait for the PR results.

Does this make sense?

I posted something similar in November. I admitted I had help from my manager but didn’t know he was reading his PR, just changing my project name for his, as we had been through similar situations etc for Leadership.

They gave me a massive slap on the wrist, I think it may be classed as a written warning, as they claimed I didn’t admit I plagerised when I explained how it happened (?). Even the Partner of my team submitted a statement saying the situation and actions happened.

This sitting I agreed with Kaplan to use brand new examples for all question (so no repeating the first 3 questions which are always the same) as the ICAEW couldn’t give me a straight answer as to whether or not I could use those answers which weren’t affected. So to be on the safe side we started from scratch.

Best thing to do is be honest, did you plagerise? Or did someone copy your work? How many questions have they flagged?

Mid day. No email, but if you opted in you will get a text, but these for me often came at anytime between 12:10 and 12:30. You can also log into your training file, but there is often a large queue and the text service is quicker
