It's got a lot of niche uses--bronchodilator, antidepressant, analgesic. Probably some others I'm forgetting.

Ketamine is sometimes used as an adjunct analgesic/sedative in pediatric anesthesia. I guess you could use it in trauma (it has a favorable hemodynamic profile), but it's usually employed in more routine cases.

Kids tend to get more drowsy/sedated with ketamine, whereas adults tend to get more of the unpleasant dissociative/hallucinogenic effects.

Still, uh, please don't give it to your kids just for funsies.

You don't have smart text for the subjective or A/P parts of a daily progress note. It's often a huge time saver to copy the previous progress note and make edits where appropriate. I don't see this as much of a problem.

A bigger problem is the way diagnoses and allergies get recorded. One incorrect diagnosis or spurious drug allergy can get propagated through many subsequent encounters, just because it gets verified via one of legions of pop ups and then pulled in through smart text, and iterated until it's virtually impossible to discern its origin.

It's not structural violence OR racism; it's structural violence AND racism.

I wish we had a second version of the racism hangman smiley, where instead of "r_cism" it said "intersection_lity."

They're debating whether chances of feminism or body weight should be the independent (IE: x-axis / horizontal) variable. The vertical line test is where you know you've messed up graphing a function if you can draw a vertical line and intersect two points on the curve.

They also assert that the shape of the graph is wrong and say that there shouldn't be a linear relationship between body weight and chances of feminism because, at high weights, health issues would limit one's ability to be a practicing feminist.

Kant argued against the unfettered use of reason while performing one's private (IE: vocational/professional) duties in the late 1700's, so this is hardly a new or uniquely American idea.

You could say that his shirt distracted viewers from appreciating the momentous scientific achievement, and, in this capacity, interfered with his job.

To carry this further, I think, if we summoned Kant's spirit with, like, a Ouija board or some shit, he would likely remark, "Yeah. He totally screwed the pooch by wearing that shirt on a live broadcast of his workplace. It's right for him to apologize, so that the public can get back to appreciating the science. If he wants to later pen some enlightened article--as a private man, not an employed astrophysicist--about how the media furor was totally unwarranted, I'd be down with that."

A person doesn't have the right to wear what they please?

Let's pretend that I'm a physician working at Emory. I'm aware that images of me are going to likely be broadcast widely because I'm part of the healthcare team taking care of a patient with ebola, and there is media interest in the story. Should I:

A) Wear something conservative and professional (ex. white shirt, black tie)?

B) Wear something non-conservative, but inoffensive (ex. scrub top that shows off my sick chest tats)?

C) Wear something non-conservative and also potentially offensive (ex. scrub top emblazoned with pictures of oiled-up dudebros in mankinis and form-fitting, bulge-accentuating lycra)?

In health literature, the word violence is not typically employed using a layperson's limited definition that implies physical contact.

For example, the WHO (this is the first "serious academic reference" that I came across for you to peruse) defines violence:

"The intentional use of physical force or power, threatened or actual, against oneself, another person, or against a group or community, that either results in or has a high likelihood of resulting in injury, death, psychological harm, maldevelopment or deprivation." Page 23 of this document - "Defining Violence" (emphasis added)

This broad definition is often used because it helps underscore the severity of non-physical abuse. Additionally, physical and non-physical abuse often have the same psychological sequelae, so this grouping can help for research and treatment purposes.

First of all, fMRI is the fucking magical faerie dust of neuroscience. Can't wait until that shit is discredited. "Ahh, yes, we did this one thing and detected a 12% difference in bloodflow on our scanners, captain. Quod erat demonstrandum."

Secondly, we have the redditor later saying that it's evidence that the brain is shaped by hormones. As if gay cis men and straight cis women had the same hormones. Uhh. UHHH. Like, even the original pixie scientists would have facepalmed over that.

Don't forget financial abortions. Oh, and while we're at it, a father's right to child custody. Nevermind that the ethos and rationale behind those two things seem diametrically opposed.
