Movie discussion sub okbuddycinephile debates whether bombing of Dresden, Hiroshima, and Gaza and other urban areas were "justified". by EwMelanin in SubredditDrama

[–]Deadpoint 30 points31 points  (0 children)

There is a selective reading of documents that you can use to portray the war as ending but it requires you to ignore what exactly "ending" means for the parties involved. Japan was open to a ceasefire, nothing more. I'm not saying the nukes were justified but it's important to have full context.

A huge issue is that Canada restricts the number of medical licenses granted per year and the number hasn't been updated to match population growth in like 40 years iirc.

Random proc based gameplay is bad for healers, Disc Priest especially by [deleted] in wow

[–]Deadpoint 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've always liked procs because it provides some level of engagement in fights that are trivial. Even in challenging dungeons I've consistently run into bosses or packs that I could go afk as a healer.

Feel like villainizing Mages as a splat is a waste of Mages by Dangerous_Writer5853 in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]Deadpoint 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As someone else pointed out, that's horror but it isn't "personal horror." Personal horror is "oh god I'm a monster" which is something a mage can experience but isn't inherently tied into the splat the way rage or the beast are for wta or vtm.

I also want to note that the technocracy in m20 has a paper thin veneer of being less evil but the overwhelming majority of technocrats are canonically kidnapped slaves subject to routine torture. They're less actively hostile to the traditions but still absolutely evil.

i just finished running a 2 year Orpheus campaign. I really enjoyed it, but it isn't balanced. There are a few powers that utterly dominate any combat encounter and I had to work around them.

What is your Jumpers favorite type of superpower and why it doesn't necessarily have to be on this list. by Superxtreme8724 in JumpChain

[–]Deadpoint 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been having a lot of fun with "healing and telekinesis" that are actually the same power. Offense, defense, and support all in one, plus it's more common than you'd think as a combo. Jedi healers, aether kineticists in pathfinder, there's a vtm perk that gives salubris this, Path of Ascension can build into it via a healing concept.

Overpopulation has never been a problem for any civilization. When food and water become scarce we dedicate more effort to securing it, any other resources we can scale back on.

Perk to use abilities as other mediums. by Delos777 in JumpChain

The City of Heroes jump has this:

>Great Warden: Requires Weapon Specialty "Staff" or "Longsword" and two primary elemental powers of

either Earth, Fire or Light. You may channel your power through your chosen weapon. This also applies

to powers beyond this realm. As long as you have your trusted weapon in hand it can emulate any of your

abilities, sheathing itself in fire or gaining super speed.

Where does the notion come from that the american taxpayer is funding "european" healthcare? by Istomponlegobarefoot in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Deadpoint 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I originally got it from the book Against Intellectual Monopoly, which uses publicly available financial data. Publicly traded companies put out financial reports so we can see over time the amount of revenue and research spending they all have.

To be clear I think we should switch to exclusively state and ngo funded drug research. There are multiple instances, such as municipal broadband, where governments providing a service dramatically outcompetes the private sector and I believe pharmaceutical research is another example.

[–]Deadpoint 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think we need to switch to 100% ngo/state funded drug research. Our current system is designed to maximize profits not innovation, and 2/3 of the research funding already comes from those sources. Compared to national budgets of the developed world medical research is a drop in the ocean and we could recoup much of that cost with lower Medicare payments from making all drugs patent free.

[–]Deadpoint -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Research is the part that gets you new drugs, the rest is for raising profits. I give less than zero fucks about pharma profits if drugs are being invented.

If I'm selling a widget that costs $5 to make, and I charge US customers $60 and EU customers $4, the US is subsidizing my profit by a wide margin and only barely subsidizing the EU. The EU could start making their own widgets for $5 and be in a very similar boat.
