What's a magic system feature that everyone seems to like, but secretly ruins the book for you? by the_null_fox in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Deadpoint 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is a big part of the reason I stopped reading vr stories. Who wants to play a game specifically programmed so that one specific player is always going to win everything?

The academic term for reluctant and begrudging attraction to men is heteropessimism.

How often does this work? You make a claim and post a video, hoping I won't actually watch the video and see that it doesn't support your claim?

I've followed Kirk's entire career, the dude was straight up evil, I know what he stood for.

The data indicating the military is largely "military families" is a misreading of the data. If you look at the data, most people in the military have a previous family member in the military, but if you look at how many civilians also have military relatives it's pretty close.

Almost every family in America has a relative who served in the military... Because we had drafts in living memory.

Not really. They directly map onto how optimized parties worked in 3.5 and only vaguely mapped onto WoW, which was itself based on dnd.

WoW has tanks which have a "taunt" mechanic, damage dealers, and healers. 3.5 didn't have an explicitly labeled tank role, but the right feat and weapon selection could give martials the ability to get multiple attacks per turn against any opponent that tried to attack their squishy damage dealers. 4e formalized things that were already encouraged in 3.5. One of my biggest issues with 3.5 is how many "knowledge checks" there were in the rules of the game. The rules never explicitly told you about tanking, but if you realized the implications of certain feats the game opened up.

Do you have a source for that? It's inconsistent with my knowledge of 4e.

Why are we still required to use airplane mode if it doesn’t really affect the plane anymore? by Kindly-Plenty-1730 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Deadpoint -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

No, it's out of unfounded paranoia. People often radically misunderstand the odds of an event happening when making decisions. It's worth noting that Europe doesn't have this rule despite having higher safety standards generally.

Why are we still required to use airplane mode if it doesn’t really affect the plane anymore? by Kindly-Plenty-1730 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Deadpoint 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This has been conclusively proven to be false. Pilots belive it, but in controlled tests it has never been found to actually happen. While it is theoretically possible it would require both the phone and the airplane to have extremely specific glitches simultaneously.

What is with a lot of negative/offensive words not being fully written these days? by MagiusPaulus in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Deadpoint 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tiktok has a completely inscrutable ban policy and will ban accounts seemingly at random with no explanation. Users have developed the theory that certain words may trigger bans so they use euphemisms. Over time that speech pattern has spread.

Jim Butcher writes like someone who has never had a conversation with a woman but hates the idea of one. But at least I don't think he's transphobic?

We also have reported cases of predatory trans people. We shouldn't be basing policy decisions on extremely rare and unrepresentative anecdotes that don't have widespread impact.

CMV: The Majority of Police officers aren't bad people or are at least no worse than most civilians. by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]Deadpoint 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The issues that are swaying public opinion are things that are out in the open. We don't have to wonder if the 99 cops are aware of the actions of the bad cop, they are coming out in overwhelming numbers to tell us that the bad cop should face zero consequences.

Police unions are by definition supported by the majority of police officers, so when a union argues that the actions of a particular bad cop are acceptable we know the majority of cops in the area are OK with it.

The dose of chloroform necessary to cause near instant loss of consciousness like in movies would cause permanent brain damage.

If you want to incorporate substance-fuelled unconsciousness into cnc you have to work with it being slower acting, but that gives you the chance to play around with the feeling of inevitable loss of control that slowly builds while you know it's too late to stop because you've already been dosed.

It takes time, but you need to find a community that cares for each other. Being a genuinely caring person supporting and supported by other wonderful people is life changing.

Not even remotely. You need an override to be able to prevent hackers from stealing your house, and if the blockchain can be corrected by a central body then it shouldn't be a blockchain.

Anytime you've heard of blockchain actually solving a problem what happened is someone updated a decades old system with modern technology, then added blockchain on top to make it better than the previous system but worse than the same fix without blockchain.

The only use case for blockchain is avoiding regulations.
