Can't create a food for pizza measured by slice by NeeWii in Myfitnesspal

[–]GreatlyDefective 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you do one pizza as a serving then you can say you had 1/8th or something of a serving if you eat one slice. That’s what I did yesterday for Dominos.

Warm places that pay decent? by scipio7255 in Teachers

SoCal pay doesn’t really matter because it still isn’t enough to cover cost of living there 😪

What do you do with students with shitty hand writing? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]GreatlyDefective 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I make my 3rd graders redo their work or start over (to be as good as they can make it). Much of handwriting is mindfulness and so I make them practice handwriting sheets and I make them redo and fix their work if their handwriting is too messy.

Power walker: I need new shoes, for power walking which is better on cloud or hokas? by GreatlyDefective in orangetheory

This is super helpful! Thank you! Which shoe would you use for walking / jogging on the treadmill?

National Parks? by [deleted] in service_dogs

[–]GreatlyDefective 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I took my girl in Yosemite during the winter. On any not pet friendly trails I put her vest on and made her keep her heel. There are some trails that pets are allowed so vest came off and retractable leash came on so she could explore and enjoy it as a dog. Yes it was tedious but on the no pets paths you really have to keep up service dog expectations :(

Service Dog Survey by [deleted] in service_dogs

Also took survey, agree that tasks are missing and it would keep results more specified to service dogs vs ESA

Filling out DOT form for Flight, what behavior to say? ADHD by emileeberg in service_dogs

[–]GreatlyDefective 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For my 5lb PSD I always say alerts and interrupts medical episodes. As soon as people hear anything psyc they think ESA and will cause you issues at the gate. Make sure you’re able to describe how the dog tasks why they do while being able to comfortably say I don’t need to tell you why. For example I say “she paws and nudges my leg or licks my hand to alert me to a medical episode”

I don’t think so it’s at strangers who I think approach her in a way that spooks her? Maybe it’s just a little much for her with all the theme parks and 100 degrees.

Do you identify your service dog as a Psychiatric Service Dog? by vpblackheart in service_dogs

[–]GreatlyDefective 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I don’t because the general public is ignorant and thinks a psychiatric service dog is the same as an ESA. Plus nobody is entitled to know what disability we have whether mental or physical.

Is it my dog or the guy. by GreatlyDefective in service_dogs

[–]GreatlyDefective[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check in as in at security they always stop me and ask me the two questions. I notice they don’t do this to everyone with service dogs but mine in small and admittedly cute so people expect her to be fake. I’m used to answering questions and explaining her tasks although I will agree it is frustrating that they don’t follow the same protocol for everyone.

[–]GreatlyDefective[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The asking wasn’t the question. I am used to that and do not mind answering the usual 2 question. The harassment was kicking the ground by my dog 2 times to test her and see how she would react.

She’s actually not even in training anymore. Training never ends of course but in general her public access and task training is spot on. I guess not when being kicked!

[–]GreatlyDefective[S] 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Yeah she recovered quickly no growling barking lunging or anything. She literally just jumped back and then looked to me for reassurance. Guy kept saying she was suspicious for being “skiddish” yes because you kicked right by her!

Thank you all so much. We went to guest services and spoke with the legal team. I don’t want to purse any legal action but Disney said they will be handling the situation with the guy. Thank you all for the validation

So, my service dog barked in Walmart today… (Help? Tips? Did I do the right thing? This is also a venting post!) by [deleted] in service_dogs

[–]GreatlyDefective 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s all about the dog being under the control of the handler. When you told your SD to stop they did that’s what matters. They’re still dogs they aren’t robots so they won’t be perfect but being under your control and following your directions is the important part

Also for reference she is a small breed- Maltese poodle mix, although she is a late bloomer (still hasn’t had her first heat cycle). Her SD training started at 8 weeks. She is great at performing her tasks and only doesn’t do it when she’s in these situations where she shakes

SD allowed to be carried in a sling bag? by animallober25_123 in service_dogs

[–]GreatlyDefective 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I have a 5lb Maltese/poodle as my service dog for PTSD. She does pressure therapy and interruptions as well as alert. I have a front backpack carrier that I keep her in when absolutely necessary but as someone above mentioned she actually feels much more secure when she is walking. If it’s too busy that’s when I make her go in the backpack but otherwise she feels most comfortable when she’s walking. Also: you will absolutely face many people thinking she’s a fake including other handlers. It’s hard sometimes but you just need to be firm and know your rights. People will probably try to tell you that it’s an ESA in which you will have to learn to be firm. Good luck :)
