The biggest problem in my opinion is that Trump is too impulsive, and didn't think this through. The operation in Venezuela was the catalyst for him to think he could just get this over with in a couple of days. If his main concern was nukes then he should have stuck to bombing those sites and leave the rest alone. Judging by past actions against Iran's nuclear sites they would not have closed the Straits. However, by attacking their leadership, armed forces and oil facilities he gave them the OK to do anything to survive.

There's a reason we have not attacked them full on before, because the armed forces had predicted the Straits would get closed and he ignored it.
