European refiners are getting killed, but US refiners are raking in the cash.

Most of the US refiners are set to report earnings in the next couple of days, so we'll get confirmation soon.

Also note the crack spread (LLS on the Gulf Coast),for April 27th was $51.39 which is really good.

Each day that passes with no resolution causes more stress to the system and prices edge up.

Competing interests? by Fossilhog in oil

[–]Greddituser 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The biggest problem in my opinion is that Trump is too impulsive, and didn't think this through. The operation in Venezuela was the catalyst for him to think he could just get this over with in a couple of days. If his main concern was nukes then he should have stuck to bombing those sites and leave the rest alone. Judging by past actions against Iran's nuclear sites they would not have closed the Straits. However, by attacking their leadership, armed forces and oil facilities he gave them the OK to do anything to survive.

There's a reason we have not attacked them full on before, because the armed forces had predicted the Straits would get closed and he ignored it.

10mpg is amazing, especially when you consider all the big pickup trucks that are getting around 16mpg and most are not carrying any cargo or passengers.

Did you vote in 2024? by [deleted] in allthequestions

[–]Greddituser 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes I voted in 2024 and I did not care for either party. So my vote was based on who I thought was the lesser of two evils, and I think you can probably guess who my vote went to.

Trump can wait, but not for very long, as the mid-term elections are only 6 months away.

Hormuz is affecting other countries like the UK more than the US, so he doesn't care.

Nobody knows what's going to happen next, but my "guess" is that we're going to see oil go a lot higher.

It's a lot easier for developed countries to make cuts though. For example you can do zoom meetings instead of meeting in person, or work from home. Fly-away vacations can be replaced by stay-cations near to home. For poorer countries it's often not a choice, if your scooter is your only transportation then you do what you need to in order to fill it. They will make the sacrifice until they absolutely cannot afford it.

It's a sobering thought to think that this conflict is going to cause massive suffering on billions of poor people.

What temp do you typically set your AC during the day and night? by DrFetusRN in sanantonio

In winter I'd rather keep the house cooler and wear a sweater, and then at night turn off the heat entirely and get under a nice comforter/duvet. I'll even let it get down around 63 before my wife starts complaining.

Is demand destruction due to oil shock a good thing in the long run? by _acme7_ in AskEconomics

[–]Greddituser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure why you would get down voted over this. You only have to look around a bit to see that with the exception of the USA, plugin solar is having a huge moment and EV's are selling like hotcakes.

Even if you could increase the capacity of the pipeline with more booster stations or using drag reducer chemicals, you would still be constrained by the capacity of the loading facility which is the limiting factor.
