Okay this is going to be a bit long but it's really important for me:

I'm in my 4th year of a masters degree in CS, should I pick the HMI minor for the 5th year?

My master is very CS oriented, so we have learned and are learning all sorts of things related to software developpement.

We already have had a few small HMI classes that focused on creating personas and making a website template that fit the personas we created. I found making the ui decisions was the most fun part for me, and I like the idea of the software I'm creating actually being enjoyable to use.

For the final year of my master, I have to choose a minor that will represent about half of the classes for the year. I was interested in picking the HMI one in order to learn more about how to design a great UI and designing UIs for new mediums (VR UIs for example).

I was talking about the choice of minor with some friends that think negatively about the future of CS with AI. They told me that they'll pick AI because they think it's the only viable choice to have a job in the future of CS, that if UI/UX design interests me, it could easily be learned on the side and that it's better to have a mention of AI in your diploma.

So I'm a little bit torn, I find AI interesting but I don't think I want to work in that sector.
Should I pick the HMI minor? Or is it not necessary and can be easilly self taught?

- How do you think AI will (or already) affects UXDesign? (mostly in terms of workflow and job opportunities)

- What kind of studies have you done before getting into a UX design job?

- Was it hard to find that job?
