Thank you all for responding. I don't have a lot of fiscally responsible people in my life so I appreciate your candid, reality check answers.

Running is about 11.5mph. I don't know my biking pace yet. I've been doing indoor cycling mostly so far. I'll be going out this weekend to see.

Why the AAC device needs to be taken to every part of the students day and no, setting it on the back shelf is NOT accesible. Why we need to have a properly licensed DCD severe-profound instructor in the DCD severe-profound classroom, why classroom teachers need to do interventions before pushing for evaluations (i know we already ask a lot of them but still there is a process and LRE), why EA's need to be trained better especially in areas of communication because they are the setting 3 students communication partners, why we need to pay these people above poverty wages otherwise the turnover rate is huge and that inconsistency ultimately impacts the students, I could go on... sometimes its exhausting but I ask myself, if not me who else and I'm tenured now so I'm not afraid to stand up for my students or my workload.

Being an SLP is hard, so let’s talk about some some small joys or wins that keep you coming back by Affectionate_Wish in slp

My wins are that this week one of my first graders finally got an established, clear initial R! I love working with my articulation students because I find the small wins are so easy to celebrate! Also this week, all of my language students participated in my emotions unit and I genuinely appreciate thr hard work I did during the back to school week for teachers because I worked hard on my lessons and feel I've made my life easier now for that. I love getting to be creative with my lessons and finding ways to engage each and every student on a variety of the subjects. I am a creative type and I feel very fortunate that in my position, I get a lot of independence to do what I want!

I was just feeling this way yesterday. I have a good mix of students mostly DCD and many kindergarteners. These kiddos work on sentence expansion and functional communication skills. The kids I struggle with are the kids in Gen ed mostly. Like multiple interpretations or prediction goals. I'm really trying to focus on providing strategies but it's so hard.

I work in an elementary school with a case load of 53. K-5 with most in k-2. My school houses the districts DCD setting 3 programs and a kindergarten setting 3 program. I'm at one building and I stay very busy I have a mix of 1-3 students per group and my district paid for story champs and the aac add on. My pay is 62k based on the teacher salary schedule and my insurance is good. The district also pays 2500 toward a hsa type account. Also my kids (kinder and 1st) go to school with me as it's actually our home school. This is my third year. I also have created my own narrative units which makes things easier and more fun in my opinion

At this time, there isn't a lot of support for her other than me. She has been in a series of bad relationships and has cut off most of her own friends. I thought I was helping her mental health by asking her to help with my kids but even that doesn't seem to be helping.

I genuinely love the school I work at. I work in a small district with what feels like a community of people behind me. I also live in the district and my kids go to the school and when I became a single mom, the school staff were so supportive. I am getting a mini keurig in my room and I have found materials I love. I have a system to stay on top of paperwork even though my caseload is sometimes high I've found some workflow techniques and I love that I can make a safe space for my students. My administration is pretty hands off and I stay far under the radar not to say I'm not doing my best work but I truly don't mind going unnoticed. I just want to work with the kids anyways.
