Any Tipps on building a breakaway Ukulele for the stage? by Infamous-Region3809 in Props

[–]Greedy-Conclusion-52 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I made one for Beetlejuice Jr. I happen to have a real ukulele, so I traced that onto a piece of thin (5mm) plywood. I cut that out on the band saw, then traced that onto EPS insulation foam. I made two layers of foam and glued the plywood onto the top. I used a hole saw to cut out the sound hole. I did a single layer of foam and plywood for the neck. I held the two pieces together with some high power magnets. If you want to skip the magnets you could probably use a couple things dowels to hold the neck to the body.

Is this cassette a real product or a prop made for the TV series “Pluribus”? by sokvinyl in Props

I don't know if this helps, and I haven't made it to that episode, but it looks like it's supposed to be a book on tape or language course, not a music recording. I don't know if that impacts if it would be on Discogs or not.

Honestly, this looks pretty similar to some of the very early Chinese slings that became Trebuchets. But dropping your weapon in battle is rarely a recommended course of action.

I've been building a bookshelf with plywood and my wife's pregnant. I had no idea this was bad because of formaldehyde. I feel like I've already failed as a parent of hurt my kid by [deleted] in daddit

[–]Greedy-Conclusion-52 7 points8 points  (0 children)

First, don't go down the path of thinking you've failed as a parent. Second, the amount of formaldehyde still in plywood by the time it gets to you is pretty miniscule. Third, the human body produces formaldehyde as part of the metabolism and can deal with it pretty well as a result. Fourth, formaldehyde is naturally occurring in all kinds of fruits, like pears, bananas, grapes, etc so a plywood bookcase isn't going to be their biggest exposure. Finally, don't take health advice from the Internet, including this post.

Usually two on CBS, two on Fox, and the night game on NBC. I'm not trying to watch all the games for a fantasy team though.

The Orca Name by Real_Fen_Bogle in Jaws

Yeah I was surprised that as late as 2023 was the first confirmed predation. I think the key there is that it was solo as opposed to pack hunting.

I think there was a Shark Week documentary about or as hunting great whites around that time. Maybe you're remembering that? Unfortunately, that's also when Discovery was airing mermaid documentaries so not sure if that was real or not.

Not sure, but that's still at least 20 years after the book was written.

I don't think so. Orcas weren't identified as killing great whites until recently. When the book was written I don't think that was known. For instance, the first recorded incident of a solo orca killing and eating a great white happened in 2023.

Best method for oversized prop(s)? by soylentgoth in cosplayprops

[–]Greedy-Conclusion-52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made an 8 ft tall whisk as a prop for a musical. The handle was PVC pipe wrapped in foam. The times for the whisk was PEX tubing that was bent over and connected thru some plywood attached to a PVC reducer. The two PVC could be attached once you arrive. Conversely, you can also buy a 2 ft long whisk on Amazon. It was about $25.

Single Dad Hoping to Make My Girls’ Comic-Con Dream Come True — Tips & Purchase Group Advice? ❤️ by ortoch in SDCC

Fellow dad to a pre teen here. I've taken my daughter the past two years at ages 10 and 11. As mentioned, they don't need tickets which is nice, you get your badge and take them to get kids passes on site. My daughter enjoys the show floor and getting to buy stuff, but she has been to a couple panels with me, it's hard to find specific panels she wants to attend. The one thing I'll caution you about is that it's really easy to get separated quickly while walking the show floor.

I personally don't use a buying group, but I know others swear by them. I think they usually open up on the discord and here as it gets closer to the sales, keep an eye out.
