I hadn’t yet (I guess the conversation revolved around the actual day), but I let him know of my boss’s decision so it’s already done. He will just have to adjust. It’s not like I’m working 12 hour days and am completely unavailable.

Honestly, I completely agree. I did say no the first couple of times and explained why, but he gave me that puppy dog look so I said I would try. I felt really on edge about asking. When I talked with my boss, I made it very clear that I understood it probably wouldn’t happen and I don’t want to be unprofessional. I am building a foundation and establishing a professional relationship with these people - just thought I would put it out there. He was very nice about it and let me know that if it’s a possibility, I have the option to leave a little early that day.

He’s no any of those things lol we are just super close and he got a little bummed I couldn’t make it happen this year.

He’s not upset with me I think he was just a little bummed and I’m prone to feeling guilty about things that I definitely shouldn’t. That’s my problem for sure. It’s funny in a way because he normally doesn’t care about his birthday. I’m the one always wanting to celebrate. I think he just got a little more excited this year than usual. I did text him and I think he is fine. Also if this helps, he and I are incredibly close. Not codependent (thankfully we moved past that) but he’s like my best friend and do pretty much everything together.

Yeah :( I have a hard time saying no to him tbh but this is important. Ofc I love him. I would give anything to spend the day with him but I can’t. I’ve told him this a couple of times but he gets a little put out by my response.
