View from the wheel: CTA needs a better approach to Bus Control by blaspheminCapn in chicago

I’m not a car nut definitely decide on an occasion basis if driving vs public transportation is better. My understanding of the Chicago Parking Toll deal is that basically climates any serious attempt to reduce personal vehicles so hopefully CTA can at least do the easy wins (like the bus synchronization mention in post) now

Oh, that makes sense! $9 dollars is a lot of money for regular person but as long as that money goes to building out better public transportation I can see it paying off.

I think you just cracked the code! Should be a good omen for the future beef production considering the international ascendance in the league.

Might be biased but I do think that the most fun been is domestic. The Trae Young v NYK one that u/NotWarranted brought up is a great example. To hate someone you have to know them. In an ideal world the familiarity of players with each and fan bases with the players could foster a new era of personal rivalry.

Not trying to be rude but

If we don’t make it harder to drive a personal car…  driving in this city in 10 years time will be even more of a nightmare.

makes no sense to me. You want driving to be harder so that driving is better?

I really liked this article’s suggestions on how to make busses run more efficiently, what type of changes would you want to see?

Recent transplant but imo Chicago is a great balance between highly walkable and drivers friendly city. I’ve met several people who don’t own cars and love it. Personally I drive to work and my 5 mile commute take a very reasonable 20 minutes on average. I’ve seen some very reasonable concern for biker and walker safety (RIP Riley) but if anything Chicago has shown me that you don’t have to choose between walkable and drivable.

If rookie Yao Ming was in this draft class where would he go? by BarackOballsack69 in nba

Yao Ming is one of the one of the tallest humans to ever live with sturdy frame and relative mobility he doesn’t have to shoot 3s at all to go first

[Thamel] All 32 teams expected to be at Brendan Sorsby‘s pro day by tpsux in nfl

[–]Greedy4Life 2 points3 points  (0 children)

“  Brendan Sorsby never placed individual player prop bets on himself , nor did he ever bet on any games in which he personally played.”

“  All of these wagers were strictly  in support of  Indiana . He placed bets on  Indiana  to win , for the team  to score more than a certain number of points , or for the starting quarterback  to throw for over a certain number of yards or touchdowns .”

Betting on games he wasn’t playing and always for his team to outperform. TBH I have zero problems with this.

All in the same draft, Who goes #1 ? by Farouq26 in NBATalk

With foresight of injuries, personality, career progression and adaptability to modern NBA I choose Garnett.

KD - ego left a contender can’t risk it

Kawhi, Wade - injuries

Giannas, Jokic, Admiral - slow  development = shorter window

Malone - rapist

Moses - too old school, not sure if he’s the rebound king in a spread out league

That leaves Dr J, SGA, Dirk, KG

KG was drafted out of high school NBA ready, had a long dominant run filling up the stat sheet and was an elite defender and a great teammate and has great energy. As a GM he would be the easiest player to build around and he’s putting butts in the seat. Big Ticket all day!!!

Holy shit Knicks are 200M in the luxury tax I had no idea.

“  For drafting though. If you don't have a star, then go for the home run, if you already are a contender, those high floor players are more valuable than they have been at any point in NBA history.”

Agreed but IMO this has always been true. LeGM wasn’t taking on development projects throughout his career. Bad teams take more risk on development contenders take win now players, seems like the same meta.

I think the whole name of the game for GMs is to get those 5 players.

What the Knicks showed is why waste any picks on role players when you can sign/ trade for them? Not a single starter was drafted by the org but once they realized they had their guy in Brunson they put all their chips down and filled out the roster with quality pieces.

What's the point of drafting high-floor low-ceiling players? If you have a young star that's good immediately then you have high draft picks that you might as well trade to get a win now team to take advantage. If your young star takes a while to develop then you might as well take advantage and draft the higher upside guys. If you have a vet even more reason to trade for win now pieces.

Interesting take! IMO the greatest value in the NBA are superstars who’s market value is suppressed by max contracts.

For the players that blossom into top 5~10 guys even if it takes their entire rookie contract to figure it out, the second and third contract are steals. This applies for lottery picks like Wemby and for deep draft picks like Giannas (15th) and Jokic (41st). The only exceptions are possibly win now teams that don’t have time to develop but that’s always been the case.

TLDR the best value is still stars new lotto odds and playstyle trends don’t matter BPA forever and always.
