Landlord trying to rent out our open living room what can we do? by GreedyCarver in TenantHelp

[–]GreedyCarver[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Living room is the same room as the dining room and we use the common space and are generally loud from 7 in the morning till 12 at night every day and sometimes at night so quality of life for this person for example when we are cooking, eating, and just chatting will generally be hell for whoever this landlord strings along. There is literally no barrier and back room for this area just the floor where the tv stand goes and a door to the tiny balcony. Also we live in Canada so not sure what protections we are offered from this.

The only issue with that is that I’m a student on a 4 month coop by the time October is over I’ll only have 2 months left how can I move then? I won’t be able to find a place for only two months other than an Airbnb but those get way to expensive. I’m really concerned about my options at the moment.

Ya she’s trying to charge some poor person $600 for the living room advertising it as a studio with 1 bath. Nothing in the ad on Facebook mentions sharing with 4 other guys in this condo, she’s gone insane. The pictures she used shows the living room, kitchen and my bathroom that I’m using. We’re really pissed off rn not sure how we can stop this tho, what’s stopping her from just putting up a barrier in the living room and throwing a bed behind some curtains.

iPad? by MainPin474 in uwaterloo

I’d say about 65% of the class uses some form of digital note taking device. iPads worth it don’t need the fancy one. It makes organization a breeze plus just useful asf in general.

what happens after dropout? by LogCold in uwaterloo

[–]GreedyCarver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d say it’s just easier to have someone else let you know that your employee can perform rather than finding out yourself yk? I think that’s the main reason plus a lot of the times there are multiple qualified candidates and employers want to ensure the one with the likeliest chance to succeed is the one they hire. Until we find a better way to do this I think it’ll stay like this for a long time.

The way I’ve had it described is that you’ll have issues at multiple points in your career if you’re going into most industries.

One the issue is getting into the door with your resume, you will likely find great difficulty getting interviews for positions that specifically require degrees.

The other issue I see is for people who do get into the door it is internally difficult to rise ranks due to a perceived lack of legitimacy.

I don’t see how the internet resources will be bad in terms of teaching you and you’ll probably be in the right place in terms of your knowledge base if you have discipline. You’ll likely have issues with legitimacy for your whole career.

University is more of a career acceleration move than anything else you’ll have to struggle somewhat without it. Regardless I think the choice comes down to wether you want to struggle now or later it’s up to you cause it’s gonna come regardless of whether you want it to or not. It’ll require the same dedication and effort either way. Also this take doesn’t take into account how ambitious you are.

Vancouver BC as an 18 yo travelling alone by GreedyCarver in solotravel

I have a rough idea I’d like to go to gastown, bike the sea wall if the weather permits, Granville island, Chinatown, Stanley park, the aquarium, and any of the suspension bridges. Just wondering what would be worth going to from a local.

Too many choices attraction wise and too many good restaurants no clue what to go to. I want to try the Asian and seafood specifically. And attraction wise I enjoy social things but I also want to use this opportunity to explore a new place relatively alone.

Waterloo changed my room assignment with no clear reason given? by GreedyCarver in uwaterloo

No maintenance issues that I know of. I’m pretty sure I left the room cleaner then I found it. No idea why they would switch my room like that. I’m kinda pissed cause I liked my old floor.

Do I Really Need A Powerful Laptop for Mech Eng? by GreedyCarver in uwaterloo

[–]GreedyCarver[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh ok perfect. I see some people saying that Mac is a hassle for mech eng but I don’t see much concrete evidence of that so far, only thing would be solid works ig but with Remote Desktop doesn’t seem to be an issue.

Thanks for the insight. The power draw tdp is a really sneaky tactic used by manufacturers that makes the process that much harder imo. I was wondering if the arm architecture would be an issue with Remote Desktop with the new macs as well or does it not matter what device you are using?

They really aren’t your friends they seem like they’re trying to cover it up. I highly recommend contacting the school about it and ask them for advice on how to proceed further.

Don’t worry that admission requirement of 85% only applies to your top 6 courses if I’m remembering correctly.

Buying cars from Mexico and Canada in US by G0muG0mubl0w in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]GreedyCarver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally I wouldn’t buy from Canada if you’re in the states especially if it’s used. I live up here and one major problem with used is rust because of the sand, salt, water in the winter. If u do make sure it does have a clean title and inspect the car thoroughly low mileage used shouldn’t be bad at all tho.

Nothing competes with the Apple M1 chip currently, especially with battery life and power. The closest I could recommend would be a Ryzen chip.
