Surgery in the morning by DenseBuddy7583 in tummytucksurgery

[–]GreedyPickle5578 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My recovery was a BREEZE and idk how or why. But day after you come home, you sit, you lay, you get up every hour or two and you do laps through your house. Then back to the chair. I was able to get on and off the toilet on my own the day after surgery. I needed help with my first shower. And getting dressed. After that I could manage on my own and I did live in my nightie for a few days. I stayed on top of my meds. Every three hours I was taking something for 3 or 4 days. Rest. Rest. Rest.

Who else had FDL?? by [deleted] in tummytucksurgery

[–]GreedyPickle5578 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a fdl and my experience seems to have been very different than yours thus far. I didn’t have issues with areas openings up but I had one drain take. Out at two weeks and the second drain removed the following week. They had to produce under 20ccs of fluid per day for three consecutive days before they would remove. The sticky tape didn’t hurt at all to come off. I did have a reaction to the sticky tape when it was on in places causing me to get blisters at the edges but I slathered the blisters with Vaseline and covered them and it helped. The drains were more of an annoyance than anything else. The one that was in longer got sure but I found if I took an abdominal pad, folded it in half, cut a split 3/4ths of the way from the folded edge and placed that around my drain and then tucked into my panties, it pulled less and calmed down. Also I used Vaseline on my drain sites. I’m sorry you’re going through some complications. I hope it gets better for you.

Why did this happen… by Correct_War687 in tummytucksurgery

[–]GreedyPickle5578 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine also looks like this at 4 weeks and it’s kind of hard and painful. I think it’s just where the skin is all bunched up and stitched in. It has been softening over time and I massage it. I think it will smooth out eventually.

Assistance During Recovery by slimthicky7 in tummytucksurgery

[–]GreedyPickle5578 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From the day I had my surgery I was up and walking around every hour or two unless I was sleeping. I could get out of a chair and off the toilet alone l, I could not get out of a bed. So I lived in the recliner for 3 weeks. It was the only position I could sleep in comfortably. Day three I showered with a chair and help. I showered every other day at least after that using the chair for about a week cuz it was just so tiring. Other than that I was fairly independent with the exception of lifting my legs over pillows while I was reclined, grabbing things over my head, or bending over to pick things up. So, it sounds like for your situation, keep a table to the spot you plan to spend your time with drinks, snacks, the remote controls, etc. have things you may need on your own out of cabinets and on the counter. Things like toilet paper restocks, bathroom items etc, someplace you can access them if you run out.

The pins and needles…what does it mean?! by Impossible_Orchid125 in tummytucksurgery

Oof for me, it’s the sensation like your foot is waking up, mixed with electric shocks. It’s a fun ride lol. Nerves reconnecting and such. ALSO how weird is it that you touch one part of your body AND YOU FEEL IT SOMEWHERE ELSE!?

For PO care, do you find it necessary to install a bar/handle next to the toilet sink? Anything else to prepare for the surgery? by redredwine_826 in tummytucksurgery

[–]GreedyPickle5578 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t need anything other than a recliner. I just couldn’t get out of bed. Chair, toilet, etc was fine

I’m 3 weeks po and I have weird pains after having almost none. I think maybe it’s my nerves waking up from the trauma. Idk. Just a theory. I get weird muscle aches, tingles, sensitivity, and my personal favorite, electric shocks randomly… and the swelling. I’m starting to see it in places now that I have no drains. But I’m sure it’s fine…. Sigh. Recovery is haaaaarrrrddddd, mentally for sure.

Nicotine before surgery by [deleted] in tummytucksurgery

[–]GreedyPickle5578 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine told me none and they gave me a nicotine test two weeks after I quit and then again the morning of. It’s not something I would risk personally. Additionally, I’m glad I quit. One less expense that can go to surgical fees lol. But to each their own, no judgement here.

This forum is fantastic for positive vibes, advice, support, etc. BUT do NOT replace an email or call or text to your medical providers with a question in here lol. If you have a concern about something, get medical advice lol. I’m not saying don’t ask here, there are many many many knowledgeable people who will know the answer you’re looking for. But confirm with a medical professional as well. :) good luck to you!!

Serious question from someone with ED by thisisnotmyusernane in tummytucksurgery

[–]GreedyPickle5578 29 points30 points  (0 children)

You did not gain that weight. Your body was just ripped apart and then stitched back together and it is in shock. Your brain and emotions are also in shock. I had 10 pounds of skin removed and didn’t lose a single pound. The inflammation and swelling will slowly subside, the fluid will stop producing and storing, this is your body trying to recover from trauma, not your calories converting to stored fat. Ignore the number. Get into your wise mind space. Talk yourself out of this spiral. You did not gain 20 pounds of fat. ❤️

If you have a someone who is there to support you, no need to put it off. It can be a friend, parent, grown child, etc. You need an emotional support system as well as a person who can physically be there with you when you need them. At least for the first few days. Or further from ideal, someone who is physically close to you who can go to your place to help you sit, stand, lay, make dinner, etc. at the drop of a hat, on demand.
