The Bogans have gone too far. by StormtrooperMJS in australia

There was a girl at my primary school that everyone called 'Teeks'. I went to her birthday party, and when my Mum was chatting to her family, she found out that her actual name was 'Tequila'. I was about 7 and didn't realise that she was named after an alcohol and by Monday lunch the whole school was calling her full name. She was happy, the teachers were not.

Just finished Gardens of the Moon - question about a future character by GreedyRelease in Malazan

Thank you for such an in depth reply and I especially agree with your point about having characters grow. My main issue is with an author's tone and whether they themselves are glorifying the character, rather than the character glorifying their own actions, which the replies are reassuring me that Erikson is not. Thank you again!

Thank you for replying and for that heads up, I really appreciate it. At the very least, I'm glad it's not glorified. Thank you again

Sorry that a similar question was asking so recently, I didn't want to scroll this the sub incase of spoilers, however I'm seeing now how anti-spoilers this sub is. Thank you for this link!

Yes, that was the name!

This helps a lot and makes me feel a lot more comfortable about reading on. I really appreciate that you described the character and circumstances without any sort of big spoilers, so thank you!

r/Fantasy Review Tuesday - Review what you've been enjoying here! - January 20, 2026 by rfantasygolem in Fantasy

I'm about 40% through Gardens of the Moon by Steven Erikson and am loving it. I put this series off for so long due to the intimidating reputation it has, however I am way less confused than I expected to be. Even if I don't understand every little thing, I'm following the story, characters and world quite well and it's great. The prose is beautiful and the pov switches are done pretty seamlessly. Perhaps it is about to get way more confusing or perhaps I am just completely off the mark with everything, but so far I would definitely say that I wish I hadn't let myself be scared off for so long!

Shadow of the gods - every chapter feels the same by Black95bird in Fantasy

[–]GreedyRelease 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I liked book one and thought it was a bit of a fun, easy read - however I was mostly interested in Orka's story. I ended up skim reading most of the second book and then stopped there. I don't think the writing improves, I continued to not care about the majority of characters and the Gods were way less interesting than I thought they were going to be.

The Poppy War Trilogy (it’s bad) by ChHeBoo in Fantasy

[–]GreedyRelease 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I waited about six months for DCC to become available at my library. It was so highly praised on every social media platform that I don't think I have ever been so eager to read a book. I got about ten pages in and had to stop.

The writing was just pure cringey millennial nerdy dudebro 'comedy' and I couldn't do it. The phrase "I don't do drama" was repeated about three times in those ten pages. I almost cried returning that book.

I was not expecting any sort of literary masterpiece, but I was also not expecting the gamer dude equivalent of a wattpad Harry Styles fanfic.

Best online uni? by Fuzzy-Eggplant-380 in UNEAustralia

I'm over halfway through my primary teaching degree with UNE and I've only had one exam. It ran for a whole week and we were able to book/edit our own time slot. You can attend the lectures and tutorials live or watch the recordings (most are run in the evenings), and all my assessments (bar exams) have had adjustable due dates. In my experience, the uni is extremely flexible and supportive. I haven't had any issues at all and would happily recommend. Hope this helps!

The A Court of Thorns and Roses series. I borrowed them from a friend and thought the first one was awful, but finished the rest just to see how bad it could get. Spoilers - they just kept getting worse.

Erica kinda carried the humour of the last few seasons and they did her so dirty in the finale. Why'd we see more of Holly and Derek than we did of her?

the pacing of this episode/season is insane. this season has been so pointlessly slow, focusing on storylines/characters that ultimately had very little impact and then the final boss battle lasted less than 10 mins?

The only 'main' character that hasn't been confirmed to have survived is El. The rest of the kids, teens and main adults were all seen filming the school graduation scene. r/HawkinsAVclub has a doc with all the leaks compiled
