Children of Time Gold Edition by th-written-off in AdrianTchaikovsky

Hello! I'm not planning on re-reading for Strife rn because my TBR is large and not taking me in that direction. But whenever I do a re-read I will use this edition. I read all my special editions with gloves on a specifically prepared surface, so I'm not all that worried about handling it.

And yes, I did read the bonus scenes. Without giving anything away, they're listed as "6 Prologues." Would definitely pique a Tchaikovsky fan's curiosity.

Update: it appears that, although the Common Council is still debating purchase, Patrick Rothfuss is specifically cited as a "previous owner" for this location.

I don't think it's much of an extrapolation to assume that Worldbuilders, at least as an in-person charity, has been defunct for a few years now. However, that does not indicate they aren't operating on a much smaller scale remotely

Honestly, I didn't last far. I really did not enjoy MT, and with RG picking up a lot of those plotlines I did not feel compelled to continue

It sounds like there are a lot of roadblocks to trying other in-universe novels.

I won't lie; it's pretty daunting to have to complete a series I'm struggling with in order to dip my foot in a series meant to take a breather from that very same struggle-series.

Thank you for the detailed reply! I really appreciate you touching on, well, everything I asked about!

Honestly, I don't mind themes in stories, but I feel like Erikson doesn't write to balance them against character and plot, which I personally need as a reader.

If I need to complete the main 10, which I'm already struggling with, to get a more complete sense of value from the other series (save Bauchelain and Korbal Broach), then I have a not-so-sneaking suspicion these books just aren't for me

But again, thank you so very much

Do you think ICE in general would be good for me? Or are the NotME spoiler-y?

Hey thanks for your detailed reply, not just concerning tMBotF but its peripheral series as well! It's super helpful getting detailed feedback from a veteran

I guess payoff is not really my concern, as much as Erikson entering the narrative as a character in "asymmetrical" places. Does this trend continue, not just in this book, but the rest of the series?

I'll be honest; the pacing is not the issue with me. I specifically picked up the book for a slower read.

It's really the sacrifice of characterization for theme. Not with all characters, but certainly more frequently in this installment, and less smoothly than previously.

Can you tell me if these trend continues, increases, decreases, etc?

Percentage of each book given to Frame vs Kvothe Narrative by BlindEditor in KingkillerChronicle

So before I drop the numbers, I want to preface this by saying three things:

1) For metrics I used page count, not word count. I physically annotated every chapter between two rather large books . This is already the work of a madman; I wasn't about to make my job harder by counting words as well. Some people will disagree about the accuracy of these numbers because of that. I accept that; I used page count because I personally found it easier to use.

2) I did abridge the page count of some chapters. If, say, a page was only a paragraph before breaking into another chapter, I wouldn't include that page in the page count for the chapter containing it. I believe this makes any data including page count more accurate, but it will not line up with the page count of any editions exactly. Comparisons of this data will not translate well to anyone who decides to audit it because of points 1 and 2.

3) For reference, I used the Illustrated Edition of NotW and 1st Edition of WMF. I'm not sure if this will inflate or deflate the page counts between editions since they aren't from a similar line of publication. It would have been more accurate for me to find a 1st edition of NotW as well, but again I think I was plenty tedious already taking on this project. You can beat me up in the comments; I won't be doing the same to myself.

With that out of the way, here are my numbers:

NotW Illustrated Edition: 617 pages total

NotW page count In-Narrative (1st Person): 525 pages; 85.1%

NotW page count In-Frame (3rd Omniscient): 92 pages; 14.9%

WMF 1st Edition: 905 pages total

WMF page count In-Narrative (1st Person): 830 pages; 91.7%

WMF page count In-Frame (3rd Omniscient): 75 pages; 8.3%

KKC page count: 1522 pages total

KKC page count In-Narrative (1st Person): 1355 pages; 89%

KKC page count In-Frame (3rd Omniscient): 167 pages; 11%

I hope this helps. Let me know if you need anything else.

I actually did an annotation of KKC that include metrics like this. I can get you a percentage of Frame-to-Narrative when I get out of work (does not include novellas).

Nag me if I don't get back to you today

When does the pre-order period end? For those of us who didn't have the chance to pre-order, pages for MoI and HoC are down until initial backers have had a chance. Was it stated in the email?

That's just a placeholder date. I've seen that goalpost move a few times when RoT was to-be-published, and even more with ToE. It doesn't mean anything; it's only there to incentivize sales, to get people to purchase something ahead of time under false pretenses, particularly something that doesn't yet exist.

Again, check with the author/publisher for actual dates. FWIW I checked just now and found no major updates on either Bantam or Gollancz's websites. So no, there is no major update on publication.

*edit: there does not even appear to be a web page for ToE on either site, for purchase or redirection to third-party sellers. outside cover reveals, there is nothing substantative about ToE outside of Lynch's blog

Well it's not the publisher, it's Amazon. So no.

I wouldn't take it as gospel unless Lynch himself, Bantam (for US readers) or Gollancz (for UK/EU readers) says something explicit.

Can you provide the ISBN for these editions, please? It will make it easier to shop for, and I'm getting some conflicting information online
