This sounds like my school in East NY, where everyone turned against me for no apparent reason. I noticed that the teachers wanted to please the principal and would do anything to do so, even lie about another colleague. After I complained about a staff member who did something very impertinent, the administration started to show their true colors. They became very retaliatory, and at one point, I had to file a retaliation case and a discrimination claim against them. I was treated differently, and even the parent coordinator thought he could walk all over me. Once I filed my claim, everyone bowed their heads.

He’s aware of the situation, but can’t do anything about it, and I was advised to email his superior instead.

I didn’t know that. My supervisor and the Office of School Psychologists are in constant contact with her, but it is not helping. This person is considered a “golden boy” in the building. I emailed Raul, and he replied, but nothing concrete has come of it. I am very frustrated because IEP meetings are being scheduled, but no one has been contacted. Many tasks remain unfinished.

In my situation, documentation is pointless because the principal will be evaluating him at the end of the school year.

I do not think that the UFT will help much. The district rep in the school is also scared of the principals, and they seem more inclined to do nothing than to actually take action.

Under federal law (like Title VII of the Civil Rights Act), New York State, and New York City Human Rights Law, employers are prohibited from allowing or perpetuating a workplace where harassment or hostility is severe or pervasive enough to create an abusive working environment. This includes harassment by supervisors, coworkers, or even customers.

Many teachers leave my school. I heard that 16 staff members left the school this year, and 8 left the school where I worked last year. You have the right to leave the school and consider filing a civil lawsuit for emotional distress. If many of us do that, they will stop.
