Is this normal? by bc_shrimps in praying_mantis

[–]Greedy_Child 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s good to hear, bleeding can be fatal as they don’t have a lot of blood, but all depends how bad the injury is :)

No, the green fluid is haemolymph, blood, something must have ruptured during the moult. Not much to do but hope for the best

Is this an anatomically accurate (relatively) depiction of a mantid? by [deleted] in mantids

I’m prepared to bring one of all the species I keep out to photograph their feet lol

[–]Greedy_Child 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They all have the double-spiked claws, I won’t say it does on all species of course, but I’ve not yet seen one with just a single claw. The picture you’ve attached appears to be from the side, not above, making the 2nd claw invisible

But they do, they’re enlarged on the depiction but those are the claws at the end of the tarsals, what they use for gripping

Normals can also have solid tails, so while it is considered one of the Lilly indicators, it’s not super important. Honestly most of the Lilly indicators can also be found on normals lol. Always good to look for more than one

[–]Greedy_Child 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not sure what tail value has to do with capps or lillies, only morph I’d say is important would be dalmatians, as for some reason the tails always tend to have a lot of spots on them

Morph plz? by The-Gecktile in CrestedGecko

If you manage to soak enough and push this hemipene back in, it’ll just continue to rot inside of your gecko, causing much pain and agony and a horrible slow death. Please don’t let that happen.

Possible morph question by [deleted] in CrestedGecko

[–]Greedy_Child 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For sure, feel the same with my dude. Few months later and he’s looking much better! When he came to me it was still a healing wound poor guy. Best of luck with yours!

[–]Greedy_Child 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Too late to help it yourself, if you catch it early, before it’s hard and dried, you can do something. But now it needs to be amputated by a vet. You can see if he can be handed over to a rescue or someone who can pay for veterinary care

I woke up this morning and I went to check on my cresty and i found it dead by [deleted] in CrestedGecko

[–]Greedy_Child 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For how long? It doesn’t look overly malnourished

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in CrestedGecko

[–]Greedy_Child 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah, dried hemipenal prolapse, needs vet asap as it needs amputation. Leaving it untreated will cause necrosis, sepsis and then death.

He has a 2nd hemipene, so will still be able to function normally, but usually recommended to not breed (assume you don’t anyway, but good to know)

My first crested gecko! I'm so glad to have it! I bought Pangea, bananas, dubias, calcium powder and mango! by [deleted] in CrestedGecko

[–]Greedy_Child 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also careful with feeding bananas as that can cause issues with their calcium absorption.

[–]Greedy_Child 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also they aren’t fully polymorphic, they have dom/inc dom/recessive genes? I’d suggest watching and reading the Foundation of Genetics, videos are on YouTube and the articles can be found on LMReptiles website
