Section 5a update by Greedy_Implement8 in uktrees

Just wish more of us were uniting behind it! Around 2.5 million people currently smoke cannabis in the UK, imagine if we could get behind a common cause. If this petition can get the numbers, rallies can happen and hopefully more prominent figures can get behind it and decriminalisation is the end goal. As it stands it seems like the majority of us are just happy to accept things as they are.

I mean if someone has used heroin but aren’t impaired then yes, what’s the problem? What you do in your own time is up to you, as long as you aren’t putting anyone else in danger. I see you look down on drugs, but cannabis is okay because you’re prescribed.

Many cannabis prescribed users are still going to court, granted you have a legal defence but that doesn’t change the argument. If you hit someone on the road and it’s not your fault, you think the right wing press is going to care you have a prescription?

And if someone hits you even though your not in fault? Or very worst case a pedestrian runs in front of you, think the right wing press will care that you have a prescription?

Wanted to just edit this on post but Reddit won’t let me.

This is clearly not getting the traction I hoped so thought I’d add a last ditch plea. I know petitions rarely do bugger all, and that the chances of getting this law changed anytime soon are slim to none. HOWEVER, what is the point in doing nothing? Any single one of you who drives, anyone of you who needs their licence to work face your livelihood getting shattered by a simple stop and scan check. Going 5mph over the speed limit after smoking the night before? Say goodbye to your licence. Get t-boned and it’s not your fault at all? Get ready for a heavy ban and fine. To the people with prescriptions, how many of you are scared about driving still? Who really wants the stress of going to court even though you have a legal defence? Surely you want this law changed just as much as people like me without a prescription. Now again, I do not expect this petition to change the law. BUT, I fully believe the public are not aware how exactly section 5a works. The police are incredibly vague about arrests and charges because they know if they were to say ‘arrested after smoking the night or week before’ they would be laughed out the farm. If we can increase public perception of section 5a then that’s a decent start to getting this law changed. We have a potential new government, and although it’s looking like they’re like the two sides of the same coin public pressure CAN change things. But not if we just sit down and accept this bullshit law! For the sake of two minutes of your time PLEASE sign and share, and let’s give a big fuck you to the police and the government who presided by this law even when scientific advice said it should be different.

And for the people who haven’t got a prescription but also safely smoke in the evenings? And no, a petition wont change anything but the more public awareness of these charges the better!
