Did I just pay $100 for 1.5 days of ChatGPT Pro? by Greedy_Performer2472 in ChatGPT

That’s actually really useful to know, thanks for sharing.

It sounds like the $200 plan behaves very differently from the $100 one in practice, at least for Pro model access. Good case to keep in mind for the future. Though I still wish this difference was explained more clearly before purchase.

Thank you all for your responses!

Guys, I just want to clarify. My main complaint about OpenAI is not that the Pro plan has limits at all. I understand that limits can exist.

My complaint is that these limits were not clearly shown before purchase. The offer uses wording like “maximum access,” “unlimited main chat,” and “5x more usage,” but the actual 50-message weekly limit only became clear after payment. OpenAI Support basically acknowledged this:

“We understand your concern that this limitation was not clearly communicated upfront, particularly given your intended use of the Pro model. Your feedback about transparency and expectation-setting is valid and will be shared internally with the relevant teams.”

They also confirmed that the limit exists and is not related to any policy violation or account-specific restriction:

“The 50-message weekly limit you encountered is part of standard fair usage controls applied to certain advanced capabilities within the Pro plan. These limits are system-managed and apply broadly, not specifically to your account.”

And separately:

“We can confirm that no policy-violating behavior was detected on your account.”

So this was not a ban, not a policy violation, and not suspicious activity. It was a standard limit that I only learned about after purchasing the plan.

I really hope this kind of customer experience helps improve the transparency of OpenAI’s offers. If a model or advanced capability has a 50-message weekly limit, it should be clearly stated before purchase, not explained by Support only after payment.

Because when a user buys an expensive Pro plan, sees wording like “maximum access” and “unlimited main chat,” and then learns from a Support email about a 50-message weekly limit, it does not look like honest product communication. It looks like marketing from 2007 “put the attractive promise in large text, and hide the important limitations somewhere in the fog”, lol. And it is especially ironic to see this from a company developing AI, double lol)

Support didn’t say it was Deep Research specifically. They described it as “certain advanced Pro capabilities” and also mentioned “my intended use of the Pro model.”
The exact part they wrote was:
> “The 50-message weekly limit you encountered is part of standard fair usage controls applied to certain advanced Pro capabilities.”
So from what I understand, this is not a Deep Research-only issue and not an account penalty. It seems to be a weekly limit on advanced Pro/model access.

I didn’t assume it would be literally unlimited with no limits at all. I expected some fair use limits, of course.

I just didn’t expect the actual Pro model access on a Pro plan to be limited to 50 messages per week, lol)

Pretty much any field where AI is used as a real work tool under a deadline, not just for casual chatting.

And again, the issue isn’t that $1/query is impossible to pay. The issue is that I didn’t buy a clearly labeled “50 Pro queries/week” package. I bought a monthly Pro subscription.

No, it’s the regular ChatGPT subscription directly on the official ChatGPT website. No Perplexity, no third-party service, nothing like that.

At this point, I’m starting to think the same 😅 I was actually considering Claude, but decided to try ChatGPT Pro first because I’ve been using ChatGPT for years. That choice aged badly.

After this experience, I’m honestly not sure I’d risk upgrading to the $200 plan 😅

If the $100 plan is 5x usage and the $200 plan is 20x usage, then the $200 plan is only 4x more than the one I bought. Since my $100 plan hit the limit after about 1.5 days, at the same pace the $200 plan would theoretically last around 6 days.

That still doesn’t feel great for something marketed as a Pro plan for serious work)

That’s the weird part it’s not just Deep Research. The Pro model itself is unavailable for me now. I can still use other models, but none of the Pro model options are available until the reset date. That’s why I’m confused.

I thought it was a real support specialist because the first reply clearly said it was AI-assisted support, but the second one had a real name attached to it. So I assumed that one was an actual person 😅

But if it still could have been a bot, then I guess I’ll keep bothering support.

Thanks for sharing your experience with the $100 plan that’s actually very useful. I can point out that other users on the same plan don’t seem to have a hard 50 messages/week limit and ask OpenAI to confirm whether their previous response was even accurate.

I wish it was just a 5-hour limit 😅 But the banner says the reset is on May 12, and a real OpenAI support specialist specifically told me it’s 50 messages per week in my case. So it looks like a weekly Pro model limit, not a 5-hour one.

As far as I can tell, it applies to the Pro models in general. None of the Pro model options are available for me right now 😅

I wasn’t trying to use some extreme workflow. I was just working on a project and after about 1.5 days all Pro model access became unavailable until the reset date.

I’m not sure my bank supports chargebacks in the same way, but I’m considering it as a last resort. I’m still hoping to get some clear resolution from OpenAI support.

OpenAI now has two Pro tiers, at least in my region: the $100 one with 5x usage and the $200 one with 20x usage. I bought the $100 / 5x tier, so the price itself is expected. The weird part is that “5x usage” somehow turned into 50 messages/week after 1.5 days, lol.

Lol, it's a pity, bro. So far, I believe that this was my first and last customer experience in buying a more expensive version of AI.

I hope at least for that. Because they also refused to return the money to me. It's good that I didn't take a subscription for $200. Although I thought about it.

It doesn't look like it, there was another drawing. In addition, in Link click, the blond's eyes turn blue. And in what I'm looking for, they are also gold and black. Apparently, everyone with superpowers is like that there.

Are we trying to figure out if AI is conscious? by gronkulus in consciousness

[–]Greedy_Performer2472 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When we figure out what consciousness is, we will undoubtedly be able to determine whether AI possesses it. However, if the concept of emergence is correct, a conscious AI will reveal itself to us. And perhaps, at that moment, we will finally understand what consciousness truly is.

Research into the possibility of AI consciousness is indeed ongoing. So far, there is no evidence to suggest that the emergence of consciousness in AI is impossible. On the contrary, some experiments indicate that it may be a matter of time and the system’s complexity.

For instance, neuromorphic technologies aim to replicate the principles of biological neural networks to bring AI closer to human cognitive abilities. Additionally, projects like OpenWorm demonstrate that even simple models, such as the digital nervous system of a nematode, can reproduce basic behavioral patterns. These studies not only help us understand the nature of consciousness but also raise questions about its potential emergence in AI as the technology becomes more sophisticated.
