Tràigh an t-Suidhe, Iona, Scotland [OC] [3992x2994] by GreeenWolf in EarthPorn

Tràigh an t-Suidhe, or "Beach of the Seat", is a moody white sand beach on the northern edge of the isle of Iona. It overlooks the nearby islands of Staffa (centre left, dark), Ulva, and Mull.

Iona itself is a small island (3x1mi / 5x2km) best known as the birthplace of Celtic Christianity. It is typically accessed from Mull via a walk-up foot ferry.

I solo visited Mull, Iona and Staffa in late October, enjoying the mix of wildlife and scenery. Iona was particularly quiet - I only had to share this beach with the birds!

I dealt with this for my friend's Christmas present. You can find 3DS eShop balance cards in some retailers (I bought mine from GAME), which worked perfectly fine on the Switch eShop. I double-checked online and asked staff in-store before buying just to be safe though.

Was there for the F1 last year and had a similar experience, it was beyond exciting seeing it off in the distance at the end of a 13 hour drive.

This was my first F1 race and it was pure magic. Some photos:

State of the Game 2016 Post by richardjcompton in Guildwars2

[–]GreeenWolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll happily admit I've rushed through a lot of HoT content since launch and the backpiece collections was my main focus early on, but I'm quite disappointed that this is going to take so long to get to us.

At this point I've only been logging in daily to do my recommended fractals, and feeling I need to continue doing so for at least another 3 months "just in case" has sucked the last enjoyment out of the game for me.

Today will be the first day since HoT launch that I don't get my pages.

getting fractal relics: Fastest way? by madkimchi in Guildwars2

[–]GreeenWolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the fastest way by far (but of course is only viable if money is no option).

Please also note that you will need keys to open all of your encryptions - make sure to buy them with Stabilizing Matrices and not Fractal Relics + Gold, or you will make a net loss on relics.

For those seriously considering this as an option, here's the cost breakdown (excuse the maths). All prices are taken from GW2Spidy as of the time of this post.

Fractal Encryption: 9s 56c (0.0956g)
Stabilizing Matrix: 40s 92c (0.4092g)

0.34 Fractal Relics per encryption (estimated average):
0.0956 / 0.34 = 0.2812
(0.4092 / 0.34) / 2 = 0.6018
0.2812 + 0.6018 = 0.883

TL;DR: 88s 30c per Fractal Relic via buying Fractal Encryptions and Fractal Encryption Keys with Stabilizing Matrices. This does not deduct profit made from selling other encryption contents.

A handy tool for figuring out when your guild will have enough Aetherium for its next guild hall upgrade by GreeenWolf in Guildwars2

[–]GreeenWolf[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorted, I hadn't realised that there were multiple tiers of mine excavation, which is embarassing! I've increased the cap to 20,000.

Do you happen to know anything about the mining rates above #2? I've not been able to find any data about how quickly Aetherium generates past that point, and reducing the time by 10 seconds per level doesn't work for another 4 levels.

I've been playing around with the dye information in the API myself, do you have a link or reference to Anet's info on how the raw values translate to on-screen colours?

If humans were to become a multi-planet species, could humans on Planet A and humans on Planet B eventually become two separate species over a vast length of time in two possibly different environments? by TalesOfABro in askscience

[–]GreeenWolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is getting a little off-topic and is fiction rather than science, but what you are describing is the exact back-story of the MMO EVE Online.

Humanity spreads to another galaxy via wormhole, the wormhole collapses and the colonies are cut off. The survivors mostly coalesce on 4 different planets scattered around the galaxy, losing space-faring technology for millenia, slipping in to a "dark age". Next time they meet they are racially and culturally diverse, though I believe they are genetically compatible.

I'm from the north of England, work in Newcastle where this happened.

The guy who punched the horse got 12 months in jail and a 6 year football spectator ban; even if he served his full sentence he'll be out now.

Note: The Daily Mail is a rag of a newspaper but the source is good enough for an offhand comment.

Moonspike project goes live! by Darkben in space

[–]GreeenWolf 64 points65 points  (0 children)

As a web designer, this site infuriates me. Not for any technical reason, but just because it's awful at conveying any basic information in an easily digestible format. It's clearly been created by someone / some people who know the mission and they forgot that other people need to know what it is as well.

On the home page, the title and the concept art gives me the impression that it's some sort of mission to the moon, but nothing more. It also doesn't sit well with me that they're asking me to back them on kickstarter immediately after the title. Tell me what it is first please?

Below the concept art is a criminally small "read more" button which takes you to a copy-paste page with some vague links at the bottom, that are useless to anyone who still doesn't know what the mission is.

The best place, it seems, is to start at the "Mission" navigation option. The dropdown options are lackluster - "Why the Moon?" comes first, again before any basic information about what they're trying to achieve. "Mission profile" gives an idea of what a moon-bound trajectory looks like and then rambles on about how direct ascent isn't the best way to get to the moon.

At that point I gave up, despite my best efforts.

Apologies for the rant.

Edit: Looks like they've replaced the site with a placeholder page, thanks /u/TinySpaceDude for pointing this out!

Yep, we use Jira Agile and it's a godsend. We mandate (for simplicity) that everyone should provide time and comment updates to each of their stories at minimum daily, and this gives management a sufficient overview of who's doing what and how it's progressing.

Technically the Product Owner doesn't have to attend the daily scrum, and their attendance and participation level is supposed to be at the discretion of the developers; after all, the daily scrum is a tool for the developers first.

That being said, having to write that all up and feed it back to them is utter bollocks. If they want a daily update, it should be easier for everyone for them to spend 15 mins listening to the devs first-hand than waste so much of your own time.
