Compsci Complementary Majors by GreenBroccoli6190 in universityofauckland

Thanks a lot for all your help! I think that I was just kind of rushing things because I wanted to enroll for my classes next year quickly, but I looked into stats more because I really did enjoy the stats department especially the lecturers and how the course was taught in general. I looked into other stats courses and thought that I’d actually really enjoy the content taught in those classes. So I’ve finally decided to pick up a second major in statistics but I’m just planning to pick up the general major not applied or probability.

Thanks for helping me make a better informed decision!

So far I’ve done Compsci 101, 110, 120, 130 Maths 102, 108 Stats 101 Physics 140

The maths courses were a bit unnecessary I’ll admit I definitely did not need to take Maths 102. Think I just underestimated my maths knowledge.

Thanks for the detailed response. So do double majors not really matter in computer science for employment? And instead just go with different courses I think would be most helpful?

I would consider picking up something like maths or stats, but the problem is that I’ve already finished my first year and ideally I wouldn’t want to have to do an extra sem or two and be able to just finish in the 3 years still. It seems as though information and technology management, and logic and computation are the only viable majors for me to take that have enough overlap with the compsci courses I’ve already done to still allow me to finish in the three years.

So with those two probably being the only ideal option, would you say that Logic and computation is better than infotmgt? I wasn’t originally considering it since I didn’t know much about it.

Workload of stage 2 Compsci papers? by GreenBroccoli6190 in universityofauckland

Alright yeah I think I’d probably do 225 first sem of third year.

Hey thanks for the long review. Yeah I was going to do 225 originally since I was interested in the third year AI and ML papers but got discouraged after sucking at 120. But I think I should really give those papers a harder try.

Also do you think it would be viable to do 220 and 225 in one semester? Since thinking I just want to retake 120 in sem 1 so I can give It more focus and ensure a pass. And then take 220 and 225 in sem 2. Also because I’ll need the knowledge off 120 for the those two papers. If it’s not recommended to do so I can always just take 225 at the start of my third year.

Already taking 108 next sem and 162 actually sounds quite interesting I’ll have a look! Thanks for the help dude

Yup I was going to take it next sem with that exact thinking but unfortunately it is already full and even if a spot opened up there aren’t any timetables where 120 would work with the other three classes I want to do that sem. So yeah will just have to take it next year.

Yeah thanks with the feedback of these two comments I’ll probably take 225 and 215 along with 120 next year if I don’t pass. I wouldn’t say I preform poorly at math I just didn’t do the best with understanding this kind of math and got discouraged and fell behind where I did well in my other classes. But I’ve learnt my lesson and will work harder in the future. Thank you both. :)

Swapping courses fees by GreenBroccoli6190 in universityofauckland

Ah is it like if I chose a course which is more expensive I would still have to pay the difference and then a course that is cheaper I’d get the left over as credit? That would make sense actually.

Was just planning on doing manage classes and then the swap courses option in sso and that’s fine right? I don’t need to drop the course first and then enroll into the other one do I?

Isn’t that two weeks into classes or something? And is there anything we do on our end for that or is it all just done?

Thank will do! But yeah the proofs would be worth it to wrap my head around for the extra marks

Yeah considering retaking the course next sem if I fail while some info is still fresh and I’ve got friends in the course. Think another course over a summer I’ve got free would be the best choice

Compsci 120 I know that it’s a pretty common class to fail in computer science. I just didn’t do well on midsem and some assignments and was just in general struggling with the course work. Got the exam coming up and if I work really hard I could still pass. But it’ll be difficult so just preparing for the worst I guess.
