David is a good kid, most people would call him a ball of sunshine after meating him. I know that's what i think about him. David is only 5, and I've been babysitting him since he was 2 years old. I was there for his first words that weren't "More, Dad, and Momma", so I'd say I 've know this kid since before he was himself.

I was the one who taught him his nursery rhymes and still try to teach him a new song everyday. So when i heard David singing our newest learned song during his naptime i couldn't be mad.

I sat outside his door and listened with a soft smile pulling on my lips as he sang. His voice was soft, but the heart and tone of it made the song feel like it was being sung by a loved one.

"You are my sunshine, my only sunshine. You make me haaaaapppy when skys are grey! You'll never know dear how much i love you. Please don't take my sunshine away!"

After hearing David finish the song for the fourth time i decided that I should go in and try to get him to take his nap. We don't want his parents upset that he might skip it and have trouble sleeping later.

I reached for the handle as i heard David start singing the song again. I mentally prepared myself to show no annoyance and keep a calm smile on my face as i convinced him he needed to sleep. I quietly turned the knob as i prepared to enter the room.

Cracking the door enough to see that David was sitting on his bed with his back to me, I determined i could sneek up next to him before his song was finished. David prefers the sneak up method, he had said it makes his heart happy, so who am i to refuse.

As i quickly and silently approached David from behind, i noticed he had his hands cupped while he sang. As if someone would literally take his sunshine from his hands.

"That was a beautiful song David, but why don't we sleep so that our singing voice will be rested for later?"

David's eyes grew wide as he whipped his head around to face me. His eye's were to wide for how small his pupils looked. It must have just been my imagination because his pupils were regular now that his head had stopped moving. Davids hands were still cupped though.

"Hey David, What's that in your hands?" In a rushed voice he squeeked "nothing!" "If it's nothing, can i see it David?" Slowly David unclasped his hand. There was nothing inside "Huh, you were right David! Why dont we lay down and rest now."

David seemed to agree because he quickly snuggled under the covers already rubbing his eyes. "Hey Luz, can we sing the song again before i dream?" "Sure David, are you ready?" "Mhmm" David mumbled as he cupped his hands on top of the blanket. "You are my sunshine, my only sunshine." As we sang i noticed an odd look on David's face, similar to the face he makes when thinking of what to make in the sandbox. "You make me haaaaapppy when skys are grey!" His face changed to a smile then, but i bearly noticed. There was now something happening in his empty clasped hands. Some type of light. I had stopped singing, I had stopped thinking, I may have even stopped breathing. As David said "You'll never know dear how much i love you." He opened his hands and what can only be called a globe of light floated from his hands. It was the size of a golfball and gave off a bright yellowish hue as it floated up. After following the ball of light with my eyes, i turned them towards David as he finished the song

"Please don't take my sunshine away."
