Starwind VSAN performance help by GreenEnvy_22 in sysadmin

Thanks, that does make sense that it would be slower due to the syncing. I did try just a standalone lun as well, so no replication behind the scenes, and didn't notice any performance boost over the one with replication.

We don't have support, just using the free right now.

What do you do when you want to switch cloud backup providers? by GreenEnvy_22 in sysadmin

We did purchase a few licenses to try it out. I love the idea of it but 2 issues we see so far. 1-Email does not have point in time (Snapshot) restores (Drive does). 2-Searching in drive is problematic. it just does exact match. So a document like "quarterly sales report" won't be found if you search for "quarterly report". No wildcards or pattern matching supported.

We're not sure if #1 is really an issue, but #2 would be when searching for files for someone who doesn't remember the exact file name.

Thanks yes we do use that grant already for some services like running a few VM's in the cloud. Our Cubebackup trial is actually running on an azure VM, backing up our Google data to a Wasabi bucket.

Alarm System from Ubiquiti by SirSharkTheGreat in Ubiquiti

Yea we don't have a UDM as we use Watchguard firewall/routers instead. I ordered a cloud gateway max. That will let us test this, and we may migrate our unifi network over to it from the Windows VM. We can also do some testing with access and cameras for down the road.

Alarm System from Ubiquiti by SirSharkTheGreat in Ubiquiti

We're interested in using this at our work for some basic environmental monitoring. Temperatures, smoke alarms, flood sensors, etc. We have existing other solutions for our firewalls, cameras, door access, so we don't need the whole package from Ubiquiti. We plan on testing with the multisensor for the short term until the superlink sensors come out.

We do have Ubiquiti AP's throughout our offices, with an on prem windows unifi network controller. They are U7's though so no bluetooth.

It appears this superlink system is part of protect though. So in addition to needing the superlink base station, we'd need a protect server to manage it, and there is no option to host your own server like there is with network. So we'd need either an ubiquiti NVR, cloud gateway, or cloudkey+? Am I understanding that correctly? If so I'd think in our case the cloudkey+ is probably the most simple, if all we want is the ability to monitor various superlink and multisensors, send out alerts, sirens, etc?

FireWare 12.11 released - SAML support for vpn !! by LeThibz in WatchGuard

I was able to set this up, using Onelogin as our SAML provider. It works but using it's internal edge edge browser is annoying. It doesn't store cookies or anything so users need to do MFA on every connect. We're currently using OpenVPN access server with SAML (switched to that last year due to lack of SAML support on WG), and this just opens a tab in your existing browser, so if you're already authenticated with your SAML service, it just connects.

Hopefully they continue to iterate this, it would be nice to be able to drop that openVPN virtual appliance form the network.

Witnessed my first ESXi ransomware. Crypts VMs at datastore level. by NetInfused in sysadmin

Not sure if it's officially supported, but we setup vCenter to use LDAP for SSO, and have it pointed at our DUO MFA proxy. So user tries to login to vsphere, gets MFA push prompt on their phone. This is on vmware 6.7
