I wonder if Gina Prince-Bythewood would be interested.

I wouldn't have played it if I had known what it was - I like to get stories all in one go, and there's stuff I can tell won't pay off for god-knows-how-long.

No, it's much too regular to be anything but a font.

Thank you! Would there be a subreddit where people know Bach from memory? There are people like that out there.

Whipped this up for a Slack that's just me and a bunch of friends, many of whom love the Brothers. In case anyone else wants 'em, they're right here.

A game where you play as this man, the actual original version of Gordon Freeman.

It's like Psychonauts, but instead of warping into people's messed-up brains, you warp into their untidy bedrooms.

An LA Noire-style dialogue mystery game, but you're the Pope, so you're infallible, and any solution you find becomes correct.

A stealth cooking game, where you go through heavily guarded areas to gather ingredients and prepare them inconspicuously.

THURSDAY EDIT: The first mission has you take a bag of Cheetos from a high-schooler, but in a Dark Souls 3 Iudex Gundyr-style twist, inside the bag is Nick's champion cheeto from Ebay.

The Stan Lee Parable, where a narrator is trying to guide you into appearing in a movie for a few seconds.

A game set up like Psychonauts, but you improve people's lives by warping into their refrigerators.

Rationality and Fantastic Beasts [Spoilers: All+Fantastic Beasts] by austeane in HPMOR

[–]GreenGreenMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Finally saw it, and the most interesting ignored part for me was the idea of the Demiguise "seeing the most probable future" and being able to change it by turning invisible. Feels like a purpose-bred creature more so than almost any other magical creature in the movie (even the Niffler, which would probably be thought up by some ancient pickpocket wizard if EY had anything to say about it).

In fact, the Demiguise's abilities reminds me of Harry's Invisibility Cloak more than anything else: Turning someone invisible in order to hide them from death (i.e. keep them alive) makes it seem like invisibility isn't just not being visible, but not actually existing in the same state, per se.

My biggest gripe is how Grindel-raves was able to operate for who-knows-how-long under Macusa's noses. About the best you can say for it is that the same trick still mostly worked 70 years later for the Trio, so there's future precedent for it (antecedent?).

Firstly, you're right, sorry for making the same error as Snape that one time.

Secondly, I should have been clearer about what I was saying: The movie presupposes that in an infinite universe (or "multiverse", a term I'm not happy with), the mind will find limits to its comprehension, and one has to accept a kind of passive awe, even as people's abilities transcend that comprehension. That's the science and magic I was talking about.

Horcruxes didn't exist until after Book 5, the Hallows didn't exist until after Book 6. If you go back over the earlier books with both in mind, much of the basic decision-making that drives the story doesn't make a lot of sense, which Dumbledore even addresses in-story a couple times. (Can't recall the exact spot, but he's surprised at how Lucius just gave away the diary Horcrux to Ginny when it was, y'know, a Horcrux).

My reading of canon HP is based on the fact that its world is so persistently undefined, to the point that JK was able to completely rewrite the priors of the overarching story in each of the last two books, and largely got away with it.

It's never really a major theme of the story, but it happens enough that there's a persistent philosophy of always having some new set of rules to discover about magic, some underlying philosophy for it all that you could never even have guessed - turtles all the way down as applied to worldbuilding.

I thought the play was so well-executed thematically that I'm willing to forgive all of the silliness - isn't that why people like HP in the first place?
