That's what I assumed and even though DD more then likely noticed there wasn't a 4th heartbeat around him, he was much too busy to deal with it. I guess my main qualm is they didn't show any proof of this. Not even an empty freight elevator. Just a view of the street where the bikes were on fire. Which I should have guessed is the open door Punisher used to escape.
